The section of I-15 y'all were on has interesting geology. To the east of I-15 is the Colorado Plateau. Rock formations in the mountains have an orderly horizontal layering. To the west of I-15 is the Great Basin where the same rock layers look like they were put in a blender. The Great Basin is divided into a northern section, the Nevada Basin, and a southern piece, the Mojave Desert. All three geologic areas converge around St. George, one of your popular charging spots. You can see elements of all three regions in St. George.

If people want to go electric, then Tesla is the only game in town right now, they clearly got this all figured out. Ironically Tesla will also very likely be the one that solves this problem for the other two cars, as in a couple years or so those cars will probably have adapters to plug into a decent subset of Tesla's Supercharger network, which is the industry standard for dependability as we've seen here.

Pretty spot on with how the charging experiences go with non-Tesla EV's. Even with Tesla though (like the one he stopped at in St. George), can be a risk if you don't know like the local secrets of what chargers are faster, etc... Almost every Electrify America we've stopped at there has always been a charging station down or not working. Really frustrating especially if you're low on battery and need to be somewhere. Always plan ahead and leave room for missed charging stations. Great real, raw video! This is what you will experience owning an EV and traveling long distances. Around town, such a breeze. It's amazing how bad the US CCS network is. Here in Europe we have so many different charging providers and stations that non-tesla drivers (including myself) primarily use the Tesla charging stations because they are cheaper, not because they are better. And many Tesla owners use all the other charging providers as well (same connector for all in Europe). The longest I have been waiting for a charger was around 5 minutes, and that was only because I didn't want to drive 10 meters / 30 yards (ish) to another provider whose 4 300KW chargers were all available...

I gotta say, almost 3 years of owning and road tripping in a Taycan...very rarely have I encountered the issues you all seem to have in one dang trip! Is the west like the opposite for the east/south east US for DCFC? It's true the availability and reliability of DCFC has to improve by leaps and bounds to catch up to Tesla (I've road tripped in their cars too) but it seems like your area just has the worst luck, conditions and crowding at the chargers. You all just cant seem to win, but I want folks to know it's not all like this everywhere. I have over 10k miles in road trips and only 3 out of say 50+ stops to charge were as bad as this. I've had plenty where things were not ideal (broken chargers, low charge speeds, Signet issue) but no matter what I was able to get a charge in less than 45 mins all but once when I had to wait and the station was only half chargers working and none at high speeds at all. Lets hope that EA gets it, the new combined automaker network gets it and all the rest get the picture that they have to do much better to improve.
