Joe Franlin Agrred, Ancient Cave is absolutely amazing and the sole reason I started playing Dark Cloud/Dark Cloud 2 (Chronicle). Pity I never finished either though, but have Ebayed both for next week. Anyway, Lufia 2, gawd I wish it would get a DECENT remake in the modern era, with everything kept the same just with a shit load more additions (and make Arek a superboss since....like everyone wants to know what that dude's goal is). And Arek is my name....so....by everyone I mean me more than anyone else. >_>

Well I suppose that does explain some of Erim's back and forward behavior. But regardless, it still wouldn't be the first time "god" has been beaten in a game lol. I thought a translation of one of the other Lufia games did confirm that Arek (called something else, I can't remember what, but still referred to as "Absolute") was the god of the Sinistrals, so god of gods so to speak. Anyway, I'd still like to know more about him than the regular 4 it shows, with the occasional line drop from Daos or Erim about Arek.

There's this feeling of trepidation when you hear this theme play on your first-ever playthrough - you just know this is going to be a tough fight, especially since the one just introduced himself as "Gades, Sinistral of Destruction". Most will fall, and that's okay. But when you prepare enough, and with your currently-miniscule strength you find victory? That is the most satisfying feeling - which is only accentuated upon when afterward, Maxim holds a new sword above his head and a text box appears claiming "You obtained Gades' Blade"

Did anyone ever level grind enough (not very hard on New Game+ with the 4x exp multiplier) to be able to beat Gades the first time you face him at Gordovan West Tower? Sure, he just goes "Ah, now see my true power!" and wipes you out in a cutscene anyway, but you get an IMMENSE amount of exp and gold and the Gades Blade, which will be the most powerful weapon you can get for Guy or Dekar for most of the rest of the game (especially with its devastating 'Octo Strike' IP tech). Plus it's simply one of the tensest and most awesome battles you'll ever play! A lot of effort, but worth it!

+Betäubtes Faultier Yeah, to be honest it is rather boring- about 2-3 solid hours of running around fighting monsters in Gordovan West Tower to raise yourself from the roughly level 17 you should normally be at this stage of the game to the level 25 or so you need to be to stand up to Gades (if your level isn't markedly higher than the default then Selan and Tia and possibly even Maxim won't survive even a SINGLE hit from Gades' Destructo Wave attack). But damn it's satisfying to do just once.

Masamune fight was the first instance of Boss Fight #2 in Chrono Trigger though, not Rust Tyrano.

I'm happy the DS version retained this. It sounds awesome.

I just noticed the composer shares the same name with the dude who composed music for Chrono Trigger and Xenogears. Not the same person because their last names are different

Both of them worked together at one point. Yasunori Shiono was composing at a company called Wolfteam early in his career. Yasunori Mitsuda actually took his co-op placement at Wolfteam around the same time. Actually, at Wolfteam, Yasunori Shiono functioned more as a programmer/sound effect engineer than a composer, and Yasunori Mitsuda started off as a sound engineer/sound effect programmer at Square. Wolfteam is better known for the birthplace of the Tales RPG series and its also the first place Motoi Sakuraba was employed as a video game music composer.

I've asked several people their opinions on whether video game music is real music, and so far have been lucky enough not to get a clear "no" for an answer.

Have you played Terranigma? That game is the spiritual successor to Illusion of Gaia/Time. The game has an amazing story and has my favorite soundtrack in any video game ever. Personally, I wasn't a big fan of Illusion of Gaia but Terranigma is amazing... Unless if you count A Link to the Past as an RPG (which I don't.), I'd easily say that Terranigma is the best Action RPG on the Super Nintendo.
