So many of the pretentious musical videos on youtube circa 80's & 90's end up with folks contemplating this comedy sketch. Puts it all into perspective, if of cause this was a part of their life all those years ago. Just shows some comedy sketches can have a lasting effect on our lives and the world. They refine our characters, would be an indication of what we are like, for top level job recruitment, should be a question that they ask. Maybe their top 5 for the sake of time asked straight at the start. That would really put them on the spot and off-kilter. This one would be up there in the top 50 comedy sketches, maybe for a bit of variety, as most are not musically based, even in the top 20. In this instance the laughter track to me doesn't diminish the overall effect, the piece itself is far too compelling. PS I would also put the Richard Madeley 'Ali G' skit in the top 20 as well. Baron Cohen never recovered from that, one of the biggest prats on the TV made Cohen look an even bigger prat. A bit like much of Mike Leigh's 1977 'Alison's Party' condensed into 5 mins or so of Madelay's piece. The cringeworthyness of it is comparable. Alison's Party itself as long as it is, is amongst other things to many people also a comedy sketch, a long one, a big long comedy sketch. So maybe that also could be considered to be in the top 20, it would be for some. PS, just remembered it is 'Abigail's Party', such is the robust portrayal of Beverly played by Alison Steadman, wondered where the Alison came from, she takes over the show, even the title of it in some folks minds, strange phenomena that is.
