The colors are gorgeous! This is a case of "if we hadn't watched the video, we would never have known about your 'mistakes'"! I get that with my crocheting and my quilting, I have learned NEVER show or tell anyone about your mistake and there's a 90% chance they will never know! 😁 But I love that you (and others) make the videos and leave everything in so when we try whatever it is, we understand it isn't always easy or perfect and we learn it takes practice but perfection seldom comes with hand-made. Love comes with hand-made. ❤❤❤

I think the font was the problem, I just adore that Egyptian dragonfly stamp! The struggles are real, I think it is good to share the reality because beginners tend to give up too easily, when you and Luise show perseverance or persistence, it helps build courage and confidence! Oh Barbara. So many “oh no’s” 🤗 That sounded so stressful worrying about whether it would work out, purely because it was a card. But it’s still just paper & ink. And you’re still going for the distressed look, so no need to practice first or stress. If it doesn’t work out exactly how you want & you can’t just go with the flow, you can just save it for junk journalling & start again. And card-making is full of tricks to cover up “oopsies”. Embossing, sentiments glued over the top, glueing in a matting layer, adding die cuts, enamel dots, splatters & more fixes, hides & embellishes everything.

I really admire your efforts. So many times we see KZitem crafters create things and we are in awe. The thing about many (but not all) KZitem crafters is that they are more skilled than the average crafter who does not craft for a living. Therefore, what appears simple for these people is not so simple for the casual crafter. You, Barbara, are a delight to watch because of your honesty and your sense of humor when what you create goes a little off kilter. I can relate more to your way of crafting than I can to someone who is a serious professional. Thanks for what you do to help us casual crafters!

Barbara, I’ve been a card maker for almost 30 years now. Us card makers learn new techniques all the time. I love how these cards turned out and will definitely be trying this. I’ve also learned when you are almost finished with card and make a mistake you can always cover it up. If your hello didn’t turn out you could’ve stamped on another piece of card stock, cut it out and glued on top of the mistake. I love how the dragon fly turned out. TFS! ❤

I still make cards, but found junk journaling several years ago. I give my friends journals and they wonder where’s the card. It’s hard to explain. So now they request I make cards they can buy and give. Ok. What’s a crafter to do?

@@pambotter365 I started making cards long before digitals (mid 90’s). Most of my cards involved stamping (I still want more stamps), lace, yarn, buttons, coffee dyed paper and subscribing to Somerset Studios magazine (self teaching). I never really did any die cutting, everything was too cutsie for my style. I did eventually get a Sixxix more for embossing. And eventually added more stenciling. And as time went by, I couldn’t resist digitals. I also love making faux (vegan) leather. I’m turning 68 tomorrow and can only hope to live another 20 years to see where crafting has progressed.

I started making cards about the same time. My supplies fit in my child’s shoe box. I have grown to a full craft room! LOL. I have plenty of stamps etc but that hasn’t stopped me from buying more. As I always say you can never have too many stamp sets. LOL I’m the same. Self taught. Then bought books. Then there were a few crafting shows on HGTV which are no longer around. Then found Junk Journaling and KZitem and Barbara and several others. Although Barbara is my all time favorite. I just turned 65. So Happy Birthday to you!! Hope you have the loveliest of days. And hope we both have 20 more years of crafting ahead of us! ❤😊

Barbara, when you are adding the word HELLO with the Uncharted Mariner ink you do not need to also add embossing ink to your letters and re-stamp. The Uncharted Mariner ink acts just like embossing ink so all you have to do is put the clear embossing powder over the letters that you stamped with the Uncharted Mariner. I hope this is making sense.

A much less stressful way to do sentiments is to stamp them on separate cardstock & stick it on. Or use a stamping platform if you’re going to stamp direct to card. But they look fantastic anyway. I know it’s so hard to let go of perfectionism but generally only you see the mistakes 🤷♀️ (unless you put them in a video & the recipient sees it lol - but we appreciate it).

I think creatives, or even people who don't think they are creative, should avoid approaching a new project or technique with concern over how difficult they think it might be, but instead approach it with the attitude of trying something new snd having fun. Try to reserve judgment about whether or not you can do something or if something is going to work or if you think it looks good or not. And don't compare yourself and your work to others. Just enjoy the creative process and use your beautiful supplies. You'll enjoy it more, and you will open something up inside yourself that empowers you to get over preconceived ideas and just play. Go with the flow. The end result is really just a happy byproduct. And by the way, your end results were splendid.
