I'm stuck in Spain because of lockdown restrictions and these songs by Luke are reminding my heart of my dear auld Dublin, Ireland. I have tears in my eyes missing home. My Father passed away last year and he reared us on ballads and stories of the good auld days, tales of Bimbo Baghins from Sean Mc Dermott tenements, tales of Ted Fureys father who was a rag n bone man. Oh how I miss home 🇮🇪❤️🙏

Rest in peace Da. The last song we sang together, and the first time you remembered all the words. Love you always.

I think this is the most powerful song of all time. No song can quite change someone's entire concept of grief like this one can. It tells you that you cannot move on from a loved one's death, if you stay in the past with them like they are still alive. How can you? You've basically tricked yourself into living when they were. This song tells us all that in order to miss someone who is gone, "love where we used to walk" we must "make ourselves content until death calls us away". For we cannot miss that which is not gone.

Thank you kellyoneill. Hopefully this isn’t your last upload, as you have truly given so much to us admirers of the immortal Luke Kelly. And if this is your last, as it looks like it may be, I give you the deepest thanks my heart can give and wish you good health. May God hold you in the palm of his hand.

The wind doth blow today my love A few small drops of rain Never have I had but one true love In cold clay she is lain I'll do as much for my true love As any young man may I'll sit and mourn all on her grave A twelvemonth and a day The twelve month and a day been gone A voice spoke from the deep "Who is it sits all on my grave And will not let me sleep?" "'Tis I, 'Tis I, thine own true love Who sits upon your grave For I crave one kiss from your sweet lips And that is all I seek" "You crave one kiss from my clay-cold lips But my breath is earthy strong! Had you one kiss from my clay cold lips You're time would not be long" "My time be long, my time be short Tomorrow or today May God in heaven have all my soul But I'll kiss your lips of clay" "See down in yonder garden green Love, where we used to roam The sweetest flower that ever grew Is withered to the stalk" "The stalk is withered dry, my love So will our hearts decay So make yourself content, my love 'Til death calls you away"
