Tenzing-Hillary Airport, also known as Lukla Airport, is a domestic airport and airport in the town of Lukla, in Khumbu Pasanglhamu, Solukhumbu District, Koshi Province of Nepal. Situated at an elevation of 2,860 meters (9,383 feet) above sea level, this airport has become a crucial gateway for trekkers and mountaineers seeking to conquer the mighty Everest. Named after the legendary Sherpa Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hillary, the first climbers to reach the summit of Mount Everest in 1953, the airport holds a unique place in the annals of aviation history. It gained worldwide fame as it was rated the most dangerous airport in the world for more than 20 years by a program titled Most Extreme Airports, broadcast on The History Channel in 2010.
