Horse chestnut out here in Oregon is pure white. Not a very dense or workable wood. Stringy and splintery. The living tree is more valuable than its timber. The nuts somehow stave off joint ache. The Russian girls make a poultice of nuts and vodka that eliminates varicose veins. Their upright pink and white florets in spring are gorgeous.

Just how it should be. Professionals don't need to be nannied by the law, and by that I mean insurance companies.Alll this health and safety legislation and the cost to the employer to implement it just eats into profitability. Teach 'em young and teach them right and keep the money in your pocket.

Yoshihiro, I appreciate your message of thanks. Here in the USA many of us fail to think of the tree as a beautiful living thing, for which there will never be another exactly like it. Once properly sawn and milled, it will serve others for many years. Such trees are really gifts to us all and should always be honored for what they give us.

at 4:20 it takes a special kind of stupid to reach between the fingers, rollers and the moving skate to pull out a piece of wood. I would not work in this barn for any amount of money. These guys have no common sense. I pulled green chain in Eureka CA for about 6 months in the early 1980's. It took 6 months for my hard head to decide I like my body parts to much. Watching these guys is just plain scary

Russell - Or live in a cave. Is there no wood anywhere in your life? Walls, picture frames, nothing... Pretty sad existence if that is so. If you will notice, that is the remaining trunk of the tree. This is NOT going to waste.
@nickyork8901

As I understand it, this particular species of tree has a natural life of 150-250 years, 300 years max. It will have reached its natural end by the time this was felled. I completely agree with you that large (and small) living trees are beautiful, but they don't live for ever.
