We review the newest Luna Sandal with the "Origen" tread (Origen Lites). They have quickly become our favorite hiking sandal on Appalachian Trail sections. Note that the Origen Flacos are also awesome, but we found the "Veggie Tanned Leather" footbed holds water and take a lot longer to dry, so we prefer the Lites for the pretty wet AT. Here are a few features we like on the Origen Lites:
- Very tacky sole grips slanted wet rocks and wet logs really well
- Upcycled tire sole lasts a very long time...longer than the Osos or Monos for us. Ours are at about 400 miles and going strong
- Laces are replaceable on trail with the spare lace kit and a little super glue. We find the laces wear out before the soles
- Thin yet flexible sole protects from pointy things but still forms around and grips things like roots and rocks
- Grippier and forms to foot better than the Oso Flacos (except gripping in loose sand or soupy mud, where the Oso's more aggressive lugs provide more traction)
Luna created a discount code at our request to pass out to hikers that are interested (or anyone) in trying Lunas. The QR code in the video links to an affiliate page that includes a 10% discount. Here is the actual link: lunasandals.com/?dt_id=1457316
We did not really want an affiliate link, but it was the only way available to pass out a discount to hikers. Hope it helps someone!
