L/S of Lundy Island in the Bristol Channel, showing the lighthouse and calm sea beyond; M/S of the sea from the cliff. M/S and C/U of the lighthouse; C/U of light house keeper, John Evans, coming out on to the walkway around the light and cleaning the glass panels; M/S of the top of the lighthouse with the coastline seen in the background. M/S of a goat eating in a cliff side field or garden; John enters shot with a baby goat which he puts down on the ground. A duck and lots of cute little brown and yellow ducklings are seen in an old barnyard (looks derelict). M/S of John holding the very sweet baby goat while the adult one looks on; John holds a piece of food in front of the baby's mouth, but it doesn't look very interested.
M/S and C/U of a girl collecting sticks in a coastal field for firewood. M/S of a rural-looking, plain pub with a church in the background. The girl comes round the corner of the pub and goes in. M/S of the island's Bird Warden, Barbara Whittaker, a small enclosure covered with chicken wire. She lifts a hatch in the enclosure and takes out a Song Thrush; C/U as she checks it, then seems to give a sharp tug on one of it's wing feathers - youch! The bird pecks her finger (good!), then Barbara puts a ring on it's leg before setting it free.
M/S and C/U of a man driving a tractor pulling wooden crates on a trailer across a barnyard, as commentator says "this is the island's sole means of transport ploughing along the High Street!". M/S of the top of the old lighthouse that Barbara lives in; tilt down to show her walking out of it and over a stile. She walks to the cliffs and looks out through her binoculars. Taking off her shoes she clambers down the cliff. Lovely M/S of the rough waves breaking over rocks. C/U of Barbara's bare feet walking over rocks towards us; M/S of her picking her way down the cliff. M/S of a small rocky cove looking down from the top of the cliff; M/S of the coastline, with the waves breaking over rocks.
Note: on file is a small news article about Len Hart, Lundy Island lighthouse keeper (there were 6 in total), an 'Illustrated' magazine article about Barbara, a small guide and list of ferries going to the island. At this time only 16 people lived on the island.
