Whites aren't whipping black people in this movie are they? Some of the movies this girl is in always has some kind of race thing that's brutal. Last time we went to see one of her movies we were lucky to get out of the theater without a limp. She says she wants to be in a comedy. Thank god cause the last deal just about had me hanging from a tree. How bout a remake of the 7 year itch? Just to kind of soften us up a little.

Take your hatred some where else please...... you act as if slaves were not people who deserve to have their stories heard get some pride in yourself. Those slaves were not always slaves, they were rich, poor, middle class people of west african descent before the were sent to the Americas, but they still had stories. You think holocaust survivors should be ignored because some jewish people are ashamed of being treated like the bottom??? Or the poor lower class people in Indian who are ostracized because of their skin color and social ranking?? YOu think they should be ingnored as well and only show rich indians?? Everyone from the rich to the poor should have their stories told. And yes this is very heart warming african story about a girl who becomes a famous Chess player and Lupita plays her mom. You don't dare shame her for portraying a slave as if slaves deserve to be shunned or not have their stories told. This is not india..... they are not (untouchable) and not every black film needs to have rich black people who's live are perfect!!! Heck you can be rich and have troubles as well. Lupita told Patsy's story... and it was a grim story.... obviously no one would like being a slave. And now she played many different roles since. But if you come from a privilege background like her you cannot ignore the stories of people who look like you and who have been oppressed just because you grew up wealthier. And her life was not easy and she was not always happy or confident just because she didn't grow up a slave.

Yes there should be diverse films.... and they are various african and black american and black British directors and writers trying to get funding for their films that show different aspects of global black history and culture. Support them!! Don't bash actors for taking compelling roles. That was her first role in Hollywood and now she has more connections and resources to work with and audition with directors who want to tell different narratives. An actor wants to fell attached to the character they're playing... they don't care if you are ashamed of you're slave ancestry. I'm not ashamed of my ancestors who were brought from west african countries to the Caribean and I'm not ashamed of my European ancestors either.... it's my history, the good and the bad and that's life. You can't let other people's prejudice towards black people ruin your outlook on life and make you feel ashamed. It's their problem not yours. You have nothing to be ashamed.

MsLoupe aka Bonitaymorena my hatred? Let's not over emphasized this. I just didn't like the first movie she did. It was hard to watch that's all, I wasn't hating on anybody. They said that was an uplifting story. They said the same thing about the first one as I remember.

Steve Reed get a damn grip how is kids learning to play chess negative?? There are no white saviours in the movies because its an african story told by africans and directed by an indian-ughandian director!!! If you have a personal vendetta against slave movies that's your perogative but leave Lupita out of it.

MsLoupe aka Bonitaymorena good lord, look back at your comments, you accused me of racism, hatered, bashing actors, shame me on slavery, white savior and personal vendetta against slave movies just because I didn't like 12 years a slave. Seems a simple point of view can unleash the rant of negative race allegations no matter what harmless topic between black and white.
