Years ago, I used the Veteran's Administration as my eye care and for glasses. For several years, they had a person walk around telling the patients in that waiting room for eye care telling veterans that lutein supplements may or may not be effective for improving eye health, but Smoking while taking lutein supplements was well proven to worsen eye conditions and eye health. These were VA workers handing out pamplets about it. Some would grumble that this was just the VA's way to get people to stop smoking. I never smoked so they would just ask if I was a smoker, but pass me by. I would hear the "pitch" to others though. I actually take marigold extract which is rich in both of these with fish oil. No need for supplementation, One 6-inch corn tortilla has about 4 milligrams of lutein. Two cups of shredded romaine lettuce is almost 4 milligrams of lutein. Tomatoes are also a good source of lutein and zeaxanthin as well as lycopene, an antioxidant carotenoid that gives tomatoes their rich red color. Many types of nuts have some lutein, but pistachios come out on top with 1.4 milligrams per ounce. Bell peppers are an excellent source of vitamin C and contain a range of carotenoids, including lutein. Peas have around 4 mg of lutein per cup. Many other vegetables have lutein and zeaxanthin. One cup of raw spinach has 8 milligrams in one cup. Unlike kale, cooking spinach enhances its lutein content. The same serving of cooked spinach has up to 16-20 milligrams! One cup of raw kale contains about 11 milligrams of lutein (cooked it will be about half that). Just include sliced tomatoes and plenty of dark leafy greens in any sandwich you make. Egg tacos with corn tortillas with tomato based salsa, eggs, and bell peppers, and greens. plenty of ways to add to your diet.

I added these for my Dad's macular degeneration and it has stopped progressing what I also added was Asthaxantin, Billbery extract and a Chinese invented Calcium Dobesilate drug, it's been 5 months and he has completely stopped complaining about the black dot he had on his eyesight as well as the images that were blurry have stabilised. I have added that into my stack as I had constant issues with the lens for ages as it keeps increasing. It's been a year and my number hasn't changed (else, my prescription for lenses would change for every 4 months and I suffered that for the past 15 years). Plus, having a high premium eyewear which provides UV400 protection has helped me with some minor wrinkles under my eyes but the long-term gain I would have is that I can halt the changes and damages in the eye that UV light causes! The sunlight in tropical (central India) is so intense that some predict that had there been a UV index more than 11-12, ours would be 20 and above during Summer months and with climate change we are blessed with mini-Summer after the monsoons from September-Early November. @@Physionic I'm interested in how this stuff might work at certain thresholds, in places like during fat metabolism, for example where H2O2 keeps an insulin receptor phosphorylated, driving temporary adaptive insulin resistance, but an antioxidant might be problematic here, allowing glucose into the cell when you don't want it there. Another potential example would be inflammation, where capturing radicals might prevent signalling leading to resolution of inflammation perhaps.

@@Physionic I did explain at your Nattokinase vid... I generally enjoy your understanding of the scientific literature. I have learned a thing or two, but your conclusions/impressions here on Nattokinase are dead wrong on any metric. Nick, your impression of it having mild to no effect, and that other supplements might be better, is obviously not true. Because doctors wouldn't be using it in hospitals and clinical settings as an official medicinal, for over a decade. Perhaps next, you will like to go over studies on some other time tested medicines, shown effective in clinical use? This is what kills me with these vids. This kid is a good researcher, but does not use all the evidence. He thinks all there is,.... is these studies. When in Asia, they use it regularly in hospitals instead of the standard blood thinners that can cause bleeds. Lumbrokinase is another proteolytic enzyme like Nattokinase also used in clinical settings. Lumbrokinase is used by some doctors to treat Lyme disease. It has the power to break down the biofilm of bacteria that causes Lyme disease. "Nattokinase increases the natural ability of the body to degrade the blood clots in different ways and confer many advantages such as oral administration, efficacy, cost effective, long lasting effects, stability in the gastrointestinal tract, as well as its potential to increase the ability of body to produce plasmin and urokinase. It works by directly degrading the fibrin and plasmin substrate, transforms pro-urokinase into uPA, hydrolyses PAI-1 and enhance the level of tPA, which facilitate fibrinolytic activity. Furthermore, both in vivo and in vitro toxicology experiments have provided strong evidence about the safety of nattokinase for human oral consumption, as until now, there is no toxicity detected upon its usage. Nattokinase..... has been extensively studied in Korea, Japan and China. Lumbrokinase exists as a complex of six serine protease isoforms. Each isoform has different molecular weights with a variety in fibrinolytic activity. It has a dual mechanism in clot degradation: acts on fibrin directly and activates plasminogen and converts it into plasmin, which subsequently induce plasmin-based clot dissolution." Role of Fibrinolytic Enzymes in Anti-Thrombosis Therapy - (nih.gov) (May 2021) “Lumbrokinase is used as an oral supplement to support and maintain healthy cardiovascular function, and to treat cardiovascular diseases in clinical [practice] for more than 10 years." Lumbrokinase Protects Against Myocardial Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury - (nih.gov) (June 2018) As mentioned in the study, it is used extensively in Asia. And you might think the US has the market on health care, but you would be sadly mistaken according to any statistics. There is much more evidence, but this is getting long. I just want to add that the study he highlighted, using a high dose of nattokinase that he questions,.. is a follow up study by the authors. They did one earlier that was smaller, and had very similar, beneficial results on atherosclerosis and hyperlipidemia, just as the latter, much larger study did. And whenever you can duplicate outcomes, that is strong evidence the results were authentic... Effective management of atherosclerosis progress and hyperlipidemia with nattokinase: A clinical study with 1,062 participants (Aug. 2022) Clinical study on the effect of nattokinase on carotid artery atherosclerosis and hyperlipidemia (July 2017) Yes, the authors have ties to a pharma company that produce these enzymes. But that is because they are medicinal there. There are no drug companies in the US like this producing safe nutrients. You may ask why is the west slow on the uptake? Big Pharma can't have these cheap, safe, effective supplements wiping out their blood thinners and statins. Statins are by far, their biggest seller. >>> ohbaby's substack
