“Yes” to more like this, Ben. These videos are better than watching barn pickers. While I love a good pick, you can’t compare it to spotlighting beautiful and interesting guitars. (The book sounds like a Must-buy) ~Rob Allen~

Two possible book ideas: 1. A book about historically significant guitars, and 2. A book about the luthiery work of unusual guitars (the triple neck and the hex pocket come to mind) This store rocks.

I’m guessing the scalloping on the bridge allows them to use a bridge with more surface area between the bridge and top for a better contact to the top without adding more mass

Re the ‘parting’ guitar; assuming there’s no label, I wouldn’t rush to assume its anything to do with the original Stauffer guitar brand, as several Central European makers adopted that distinctive scroll headstock, and the body is nothing like any actual Stauffer I’ve seen - and I used to own one.

I love the idea of sound ports on acoustics and think they have tremendous potential, however I have yet to play an acoustic with a sound port that I have liked the sound of, but I don’t know that the sound port played any part in my not liking the sound of in any of these cases. I am extremely picky when it comes to acoustics.

More? Wheres the Oliver Twist emoji when you need one?!! Like you said, its that its not the wall of generic high volume gear we see everywhere that makes shops like these (and videos like these) all the more interesting. So yes, more Benroamin' vids please. The acoustics and the innovative ideas and the wormanship (often from small brands we just dont hear about) highlight how staid the big electric mass market brands have become. The woods were gorgeous - I just wish they wouldnt always coat them in deep mirror finish gloss - they start to look a bit plastic.

"fujigen - how do you pronounce that people?" I've mostly heard it said (by westerners) as fuji-jen, like in jenny/generator etc. But I recently heard Captain Anderton stop and correct himself to more like fuji-ghen with a hard short G as in gain/got/git, not a J. Goose not joose. From Wikipedia, fujigen is a shortening of Fuji Gengakki (Fuji stringed instruments), and online pronunciation engines confirm hard G Ghen-gacky. Its quite hard to say with a soft g ... JennJackie. Based on Ghen-gacky I'm a convert to fuji-ghen.

Re soundports, tone etc…everything depends on everything, including playing style eg pick or fingers, body shape and of course woods. Seems to me there are good reasons very few guitars have soundports.
@cheapskate8656

I'm curious, do we even need a "sound port". Since the sound is coming from the top (yes both sides of it). I kinda assumed the holes are there to prevent interior air pressure from dampening the top vibration. There is a hole video in doing a test on that :)
@JacarandaMusic
4 ай бұрын
Well some people think they help a bit. I agree that most of the sound emanates direct from the vibrating surfaces rather than coming out of the sound hole - ironically - but some does and so some would also come out of a port.
