that is art, they do not build houses like that anymore, the craftsmanship and location are long gone

Are these one of those places that require you to have social status to live in them? I dream about lving in such luxury places, but I feel like I won't fit in and the people in the neighborhood will force me out.

no this is individual house, you are referring to coops, which are generally apartments.The one similarity is their age, detailing, room sized. Ppl cannot force you out of a neighbourhood in this day and age..

i dont think so.The people who live on the UES are very classy( in general), and because they are wealthy-and own mutiple homes they arent always there to make it a pain....

@@GaelinW well for that one i will say that new york is a very expensive place to find a nice home and it depends which part of new york ( manhattan , 5th avenue etc ) and aome people are willing to pay 50 mil in a property because of its historical reference , previous owners , the localtion itself and ofcourse as you said the ammenities of the peoperty.

Jethro Dacanay - Indeed people are willing to pay $50 million for a place in NY, just not this place. Given that this sold for almost $10 million less than the asking price more than 2 yrs later.

I love the outside of this beautiful building! Stairs galore, with no elevator and no kitchen on the main floor! One should not have to pay 40Mil., without the luxuries of a pool nor; kitchen on the main floor, without a private secured entrance! But, in the 1890's safety was so important! That basement kitchen may have been a bomb shelter!
@jimbo1637

When the house was first built, kitchens were not considered living spaces. People wealthy enough to afford a house like this might have never even stepped foot in their own kitchen, as it was common to have servants at that time.
