I remember watching this as an 8 year old in 79. I was fascinated by the whole Mod thing. And then later in 79 along came 2 Tone!

JSP came at this from a completely elitist and snobbish perspective, totally looking down on it as a plastic movement. the mod revival was totally valid, I still have my vinyl... the chords, purple hearts, secret affair, the crooks, the lambrettas - still sound great!

I Agree re comments on Quadrophenia and the jam, I was more into the 60s mod than the 80s scene amongst numerous night's out two come to mind Vespa's under the arches at Charing cross and cheeky Pete's Richmond..

it was commercialised in the early 80s, the early revival mods became scooter boys until acid house was born.... a lot of what JSP spoke of was bollocks too many early revival mods went to RSG gigs or northen soul all nighters

Some Mod music was very similar to punk !! (if you rule out Ska and two tone beat ) .Just listen to the Jams early stuff !! It had a slight punk feel !!

As l remember it didn't last long, the mod revival ! l think it was largely over by the end of 1980 !! definitely gone by 1981 ( If my memory serves me right ?) Was There was a slight punk revival Adam and the Ants ,Toyah wilcox etc ?. Then the New Romantics appeared from no where?

It's a bit of a generalization " these young mods are mostly unemployed " ! Rubbish ! My elder brother was a mod around this time and was working in the meat industry !! Most of his mod mates were working as well !! he and they always had plenty of money to splash around !! Handmade suits just weren't the fashion and took too long to make .Off the peg was much better !

The Revival was strong from 1979-1984 but even in the National Scooter Rallies split you still had kids in Parka's in 1985/86 in northern places like Newcastle and Hartlepool but not a strong Scooter Boy presence.
