Group from West Philadelphia. This is their second record on Master and remains a tough find nowadays. Chuck Hadfield, Paul O'lone, Gary Young, and Frank Millet plus random others are members. O'lone is alive while Millet is unreachable. Rest are deceased I believe.

Yes. I believe they lived in the Overbrook section. I went to Overbrook High and sang with a doo wop group (Dino and the Dukes). We had a "sing-off" with them back in the day in the West Philly neighborhood. It was just after they recorded Wizard of Love. I'm sorry to hear most are not with us anymore. Just some relevant trivia: Our lead Dino, is still singing professionally in the Philly area. He is Frankie LaFaro of Frankie and the Fashions (What Do I Have to Do). And the beat goes on... One other piece of doo wop info: The Dovells (Len Barry) used to go to Overbrook High School during this time.

The only thing that ever reached us Brooklyn street corner singers by the Ly-Dells was Wizard of Love in 1961. I heard Billy Daniels and them (on youtube) doing Rags to Riches, and it sounds incredibly like the Accents. Sounded very good. Someone get me a time machine.

When I hear this record , I just want to put on my pegged pants and "dilly bop" down to the candy store (Monroe's candy shop, that is), where I would hang with the boys. Oh yeah, my hemless pants would be riding high above my ankles and PR fence climbers. This would be 1961, when 4 different age groups hung, somewhat, loosely together. The oldest crowd, called "The Higbie Avenue Boys", were between 25 to 35 year old. They were either married, divorced, jobless, excon, AWOL,etc. I will never forget that summer's day '61, when I was hanging out in front of the candy store. This green Plymouth sedan flew on the sidewalk with brakes squealing & all 4 doors flew open simultaneously. These were federal agents looking for the AWOL person from the older crowd. They brought him out of the candy store in handcuffs. That was the last time I saw him. These were true greasers, with their shinning slicked back hair. Most had tattoos , with tee shirts that had smokes packs rolled up on their shoulders...
