Hey guys! What do you think about this box and the Items inside? I feel like the items they select are WAY overpriced for what they are. I dont know if they specifically select items from brands that have a high value but also a super big profit margin so that they can inflate the value of their boxes while also not having to spend a lot on its contents or what gong on but you CAN NOT convince me that backpack is worth anywhere near that price! What do you guys think? Love ya!

It's an LLC called Retention Brands Alltrue. They're the company that just bought Birchbox as well. The company didn't exist two months before the Alltrue crap happened last year. One of Retention Brands' partners, Chris Davis, used to be the CEO of Loot Crate. And the sole employee of Retention Brands, Ryan Hibbard, was the vice president of finance and strategy at Loot Crate (a geek and fandom-inspired subscription box service) until 2018. A year later, Loot Crate went bankrupt. Another company started by Hibbard after he left Loot Crate, Bud Crate, was suspended by California’s Franchise Tax Board for not paying taxes, according to the state’s Secretary of State database.

If the backpack is genuinely sustainably made and the people who made it were paid ethically I dont think the price is unreasonable. That being said tho companies lie all the time about things being ethically and sustainably made and it can be very difficult to verify those claims so might be over priced

I think people are so conditioned to poor quality slave labour garments and accessories and the associated prices . I was looking at ethical socks and they're about 10e a pair. But I guarantee if people who could afford them bought them they'd treat them a lot better. Organic cotton isn't cheap and I'd rather pay 100e for a bag I'd it was ethically made

I looked into the backpack because I was mystified that it was $98. I guess it's from Laude the Label which has some dresses for like $400. It looks super pricey and greenwashed type deal (not sure if they are, just overpriced bad vibes overall.). Also I have never heard of them and I'm in that eco friendly but reasonable space...essentially if I haven't heard of eco clothing companies they're either very new or only exist within the subscription box space.
@iamneoniceowls

Laude the Label isn't new. They used to be Tribe Alive, but rebranded like a year or so ago, which is maybe why you aren't familiar with the name. I think their products seem a bit more plain now than before they rebranded, but if you read about them, it seems like they're legit ethical. They include info about where they source their materials, what they pay their employees, working conditions, etc on their website. Seems about as legit as an ethical brand can be. Not that I'm going to buy a $200 plain linen dress lol, but the brand ethics deserve some respect!

If you want to get the tomato stain off your plastic : put a little dish liquid, paper towel, and a little hot water inside. Lid on and shake it. Paper towels are magic. If there’s not a lid, just use a paper towel like a dish cloth and with some detergent give it a good scrub. 🙂

Looking at those items…Alltrue throwing around the word Artisan…and knowing what I know about what companies pay for products they resell…hmm. Seems to me like these companies have your workers, working in standard manufacturing facilities and their job title is “Artisan.” Like how the Disney corporation calls their theme park workers “Cast Members.” I can see the business owner touring the place with a new customer saying, “And, here we have our Artisans working on glueing the pieces of wood together so those Artisans sitting over there with the cans & paint brushes can stain the wood with skill. When they are dry, which takes many days,then these beautiful handmade boards are moved to our open air facility so the Artisans working there can skillfully wrap the boards and package them for delivery.”

same thing with the bag. If someone took 4 hours to make that (pattern drafting, cleaning the material, cutting out the pieces, stitching, finishing, adding the hardware) at $15/hr (minimum wage in my state) that's $60 in wages plus ~$10 for ethically sources materials leaves only $28 profit (which also covers the value of the expertise of the crafter) Whilst I totally understand the whole "this doesn't look expensive"/"I could find this for cheaper" argument, fast fashion has truly desensitized people to how expensive fair-wage work actually is
