I once wrote my dad's name on one in print and my teacher took me aside in the middle of class and gave me a lecture on how forgery is a crime and I could go to jail Best part was I actually read for an hour but just forgot to get it signed

when I forgot to get my planner signed (which was useless because we didn't write anything in them) I just faked my dad's last name in messy handwriting (fancy=messy) and they didn't know because he had never signed anything for the school, it was always my mom.

in my elementary school, you had to summarize what you'd read every single day. after a while of trying and failing to do so legitimately, I recall giving up and literally *making up entire fake books* just so that I could write that I'd "read" them. I got 100% on all of the reading logs from that point forwards.

God, I remember those stupid things. I just wanted to read, man. I would read a book, put the title, then rate the book as 'good'. Then I would move to the next book. I fully completed two of them (probably about 40 entries each) in a year. Why do they even have them? Kids who don't want to read will just lie and kids who do want to read will read with or without the logs.

Reading logs?... *Cue Vietnam flashbacks* Now that's a term I haven't heard in a long, long time. A long time. Such familiarity, yet mild dread. I couldn't quite form the image in my head until the reading log showed up. Yup. Filled it all the way down from the top, maybe after 3 entries max... I felt like I was the only one who did, and certainly as much. Once for a book report, my dad asked me how far I got through. I told him the truth. He didn't believe me, so I lied and told him I was further along than I really was lmao. And the book reports, literally reading it the night before. The exhilaration. Would pick that over the stresses, ambiguity and despair of adult life any day of the week...
