Like always You have a plan that's good and You stick to it ! I would have gone to a set of good aftermarket head's that would probably be more cost effective than spending all the time and money reworking a set of stock head's . I like to save as much as I can . But what You are doing is build a period correct engine . Can't wait to see it completed and dynoed . Best Wishes and Thanks . 🇺🇲🇵🇷🦊👍

This build is awesome. It takes me back to highschool. I built an 84 Ranger with a 289. I hope it gets put on the dyno.

Really enjoy your channel. Always good info! How about a 427 block, 352 stroke Fe 396? TFS heads, of course.

I've actually considered that, or at least a 428 block.

My dad built a 352 back in 1967 and it had jahns racing dome pistons punched out 125 thousandths and a full race cam and he had it balanced, ported heads and a 3x2 intake with Holley 500's and he said it was a wild ride for sure!

Really enjoying your channel Brent. What seat and open spring pressures would you suggest for a 306, solid flat tappet, .549 lift road race usage build? Don't have the spec sheet in front of me, I think the Cam company recommended 135# seat 350# open
@lykinsmotorsports

I'd have to see the cam specs, know the valve weights, know how high you're going to turn it, etc.

1.75 intake and 1.5 exhaust? That's tiny...where they 1.67/1.45? I think years back the machine shop installed 1.90/1.60 in my 64 289?
@lykinsmotorsports
2 жыл бұрын
Yes, 1.67/1.45 is factory size. It varies from head to head, but on these, I think a 1.900" would have been pretty shrouded.
@nova467spanker

Brent, Im surprised you are not gonna put 1.94 / 1.60 valves. in these heads.
@lykinsmotorsports
2 жыл бұрын
Look at the pictures of the chambers again. A 1.940" valve would be .190" larger than what I have, which would be .095" larger on one side. That would put the valve right up against the chamber on one side and sticking up past the deck surface on another. Not that either one of those things is bad in and of itself, but sometimes you get more with less.....
@nova467spanker

@@lykinsmotorsports True, I forgot how small those chambers are. I use to have a set of C8OE 302 heads and they have those tinny chambers. I remember looking at them asking myself how I'm gonna replace these Briggs & Stratton valves with something bigger. Then I just gave them to a friend and didn't worry about it lol. Are you gonna dyno this 289? Not every day people get to see a 289 rip 💪
