I live in the village where they were murdered, their graves are in our local cemeteries in Narborough and Enderby. I work with a lot of police who were on the case and my dad was one of the people tested for blood. It rocked the community and still does now. Im sure Colin pitchfork will never be released. Been waiting for you to cover this case for a while.

The village feel the same. We are told he won't be allowed into Leicestershire, but he'll have a changed name and they wont be able to monitor him for the rest of his days, I think I remember he isn't even aged 60 yet... He will also never have meaningful work, so will be state supported forever, free house, pocket money. Thats the country we live in! But you hit the nail on the head, its far from fair on the families.

@@WakeyWakeyEggsandBakey One saving grace is that the press (for a change here in the UK) are actually doing something good and keeping the public posted on his parole hearing dates and news. They even went so far as to release nationally photos of him on day release in Bristol, they are still on google. Changed a bit in 30 years but still recognisable, more so now with the new photos so if he gets full release it wont be long before he's recognised I'm guessing....

Loved it! Well put together, impressive first podcast. I think the inclusion of a broader topic like the advancement of forensic criminology is brilliant to distinguish it from your other work and you tied it into the stories perfectly. I loved the story of how dna is more a recipe than a blueprint. I could easily listen to a 45 min podcast or even longer if you decide to lengthen them in the future! If you want any suggestions for future topics I would be super interested to hear more about ppl exonerated by dna evidence around the same time as these cases , the beginning of fingerprint evidence by Juan Vucetich in 1892, and cyber/cellphone evidence (first cases solved by cell tower triangulation, or computer searches, metadata, etc.)! Thanks!

She told him to go look. He did but I think with the intention of proving her wrong, my nan watched from the window. Poor bloke got the shock of his life. It was a woman who later it was established she was one of the Yorkshire rippers victims. My nan said she knew it couldn't have been a mannequin coz of how it was positioned. I agree you're right we just can't believe what we're seeing as obviously we don't go round believing we're just going to stumble upon a body. My husband died a few years ago & the police turning up at my door telling me he'd died & asking me to go identify his body my brain just couldn't process what was happening.
