Who is that? That is Allen Collins, the tall & lean, puffy haired, foot stomping, guitar shredding machine 🎸 He was like a human electrical storm on stage, that boy could go all nite with his Gibson Explorer. That solo and the song’s opening lyrics are his greatest gifts to us. An absolute legend! 🎸

Allen really was the one besides Ronnie who gave u your $$$ worth live. He was an incredible showman and really knew how to work the crowds . Gary was more comfy in thr backround . Leon had some mojo & Steve sure did. Ed was a genius in studio ,but not really made for stage . Allen was a real showman and amazing lead guitar .

The singer here was Ronnie Van Zant, 3 months before the plane crash that killed singer and leader Ronnie, guitarist Steve Gaines, Steve's sister Cassie, who sang backup, and their tour manager, Dean Kilpatrick. Everyone else was severely injured. Ronnie was the heart and soul of Skynyrd, and they are really nothing but a tribute band now. The drummer here is Artimus Pyle, the only one still alive. All of the original founding members have passed on.

This song brings a tear to my eyes it was there last big concert before there plane crash not far from my house in 1977 in gillsburg Mississippi. I was 16 and just learning the guitar most of my family was in the music business my dad played drum for 👉Felton Floyd and the Drifters👈 and set in with 👉 Asleep at the wheel 👈 My uncles band was 👉The Miller Street Band👈 My mom was a nurse at the hospital at the time. And called me and said the sheriff told her a bunch of hippies had a bad plane crash and not to go down there. But you know a rambunctious kid in the 70s is going to investigate. It wasn't but about a mile from my home. I drove my tricked out bike when I get there couldn't see a plane it was way back in the Swamp. Police and firemen was still bringing body's out it was bad half of them died on impact the lead singer Ronnie vanzant had a single knot on his head and was dead the short hair guitar player and his sister the backup singer.died the ones that survived was really messed up ribs hanging out of there body's. The plane ran out of gas. There is a nice memorial in gillsburg mississippi.. the long hair guitarist in white survive the plane but a few years later he was high and drunk and has a car wreck and was paralyzed from the waist. The last surviving member died a few months ago the guy making the bird sounds on the guitar. They was all from Jacksonville Florida there group name came from there gem couch his name was Lynyrd Skynyrd he gave the guy a hard to about there long hair and there rowdy ways. They all dropped out of school and started there band. 😢❤

This is simply a beautiful break-up song; no blame being hurled between the parties involved, just someone telling it like it is, even taking the blame for the break-up. Grateful for having had the relationship, sad it cannot continue because the fellow has to move on to see things he needs to see. You can definitely tell when the newly freed bird takes flight, eh?
