Here's a video I took to show you what you can see inside Les Halles de Lyon - Paul Bocuse.
Also featured Les Garçons Bouchers where we had a hearty lunch.
*****
On our first day of exploring the 2nd largest city in France, we knew what's on top of our to-do list!
Well, since Lyon is dubbed as France's capital of gastronomy, we headed straight to the best place to experience this - Les Halles de Lyon Paul Bocuse or La Halle or sometimes the belly of Lyon. It is an indoor food market with an international reputation for offering the very finest gourmet food.
This 13,500sqm-covered market , with around 60 traders and restaurants, is dedicated to Lyon mothers , and to the famous emblematic Lyon chef 3 stars in the Michelin Guide, Paul Bocuse (1926-2018)
In 1971, Les Halles was opened in the neighbourhood of La Part-Dieu close to Lyon’s main train station.
In 2006, following renovations, the halls were renamed Halles de Lyon-Paul Bocuse to pay tribute to the memory of the most famous of Lyon's chefs, Paul Bocuse. He was a regular at the placethis where he got his supplies for his gastronomic restaurants.
There are butchers Trolliet and Giroud/Perrier, the bakeries of Jocteur, Maison Victoire and MaisonClaude, fishmongers Maison Pupier and Joanny Durand, cakes and chocolates from Délices des Sens, Chocolats Richarts and Maison Sève, wines and spirits by Fac & Spera and cheesemongers Fromagerie Mons, Mère Richard and Beillevaire.
There are fruits and vegetables, dried meats, poultry, truffles, spices, flowers and more. There are also several bars and restaurants including Chez Léon, Chez Les Gones and Le Fer à Cheval.
P.S.
I can think of similar places that we have been to with this kind of set up:
Mercado de San Miguel, Madrid
Granville Island Public Market, Vancouver
Time-Out Market, Dubai
