M.2 enclosures that should only fit NGFF will not work with NVME. They are often cheaper and use a different control chip. Transfer rates will normally say 5gbs compared to 10gbs. It's possible to accidentally install the nvme ssd upside down, potentially damaging the nvme ssd because the pins that are supposed to send voltages are swapped to other pins that should only be for data. Hence, the drive will not be readable if it's flipped around. It should theoretically not be possible as it is fatter by one pin... but some enclosures are enough leeway to stuff it in. Don't do it. It doesn't work. The sticker with the chips should always face up. Hope this video clarifies some differences between the ngff and nvme drives. Nvme are superior and have much higher transfer rates too. If there are any experts on this drives, please do put in the comments what would happen if an ssd is installed upside down. Theory would be good too. Just really curious, I tried searching on the net but couldn't find any documentation of what happens if it's flipped. Many thanks!
