I don't care what these theater giants are talking/laughing about, it is such a shot of pure joy to watch Dames Dench and Smith banter about their time on the stage and screen. At the 6:30 mark they are asked to name a performance they will always remember, and they both cite my favorite actress, Julie Harris, in "Member Of The Wedding". God, I live for this sort of thing! I've had the great good fortune to have seen Judi Dench on stage 3 times, in Harold Pinter's play "A Kind Of Alaska" at the National in 1983, and in David Hare's "Amy's View" in London and New York City. Absolutely unforgettable, all you would expect and more. Never did get to see Dame Smith on stage, but the video of her in "Hay Fever" at The National in the early 60's makes you yearn to experience her brilliance in her young hey-day.

Agreed! I adore these two genius actresses... I can't ever choose between them so they need to make more films together!!! :)

I don't think so - based on what I've read, Maggie and Judi were very good friends back in the 50's, and then they went their own ways until the mid-80's, when they reunited in "A Room With A View." They've been extremely close ever since, and they'll both tell you so. All you have to do is watch Maggie's speech at Judi's BAFTA tribute. You can hear it in her voice how much she loves Judi.

An interesting piece of trivia that stunned be was that once, in the 1980s, People Magazine asked Maggie who her best friend aside from her husband, was, and she said Joan Plowright! I would have thought she would have said Judi. Perhaps their friendship is more of a working-friends rather than intimate friends nature?! Anyway, I like them both. But, from what I've learned, Maggie is stern (which is fine if you like that sort of thing) and Judi is laid-back and more outwardly friendly.
