It's a first-time visit to Montreal, and a visit would not be complete without a peek at the Metro system!
Operated by Société de transport de Montréal (STM), the first segments opened in 1966 and expanded a number of times since, the system currently consists of four lines: Line 1 (Green), Line 2 (Orange), Line 4 (Yellow), and Line 5 (Blue).
Equipment consists of the original MR-63 and newer MR-73 cars, each configured as 3-unit sets, and the incoming MPM-10 Azur trains, configured as 9-car open gangway sets. Lines 1 and 2 operate with 9-car trains. Line 5 operates with 6-car trains, though stations can accommodate full 9-car trains. Line 4 was not covered in this visit, and will be seen in a future video.
Of course, the unique feature of this Metro system, modeled directly off the Paris system, is that the trains run on rubber tires, with secondary steel wheels on rails just inside the guideways for the tires. Power pickup is via the side guiderails at 750 volts DC.
This video segment was shot at stations along Lines 1 and 2.
