I just got done removing the oiler and strap from a carbine on which the strap was installed backwards. The sling snap was in the buttstock sling well and preventing the strap and oiler from being removed. I had to use a hefty punch with a stack of patches under it to "tap" the oiler out. What a pain. Thanks for the video. It helped me confirm that the strap was definitely installed incorrectly. I don't even know how it was able to be installed backwards in the first place. ;-)

That's exactly the same way the Inland carbine I just got was. Although I couldn't force my oiler out. I had to pry off the little brass snap and then re-punch/fold it all back together. I'm glad I didn't just cut the sling. Turns out it's original issue.

I do have to wonder; is the tab that goes through the buckle supposed to be on the inside or outside, or does it not matter? Anyway thanks for the tutorial. It sure made putting a sling on my weapon a breeze
@norwich93CMP
6 жыл бұрын
No it doesn't matter but there are options to each. Tab under makes it ascetically better and is better to thread through the stock. Going tab on top wont have scratching on the stock from the metal tab but is harder to thread through the stock. It also makes it easier to adjust lengths.

First decide if you want GI or reproduction. Repro kits are about $35+ and GI are about $45+. I recommend USGI. Local gun shows are best but if you know what your looking for use eBay or GunBroker and build your own kit.

And the oiler never falls out?? I would think the first time that buttstock got banged around real good, that oiler would pop out and you would lose your sling mount....do you know if that was ever a issue when these were used in WW2? It just does not look like it will stay secure to me.

I have a Plainfield Machine carbine. I am a former Marine. I know how to obtain range dope, fire three round groups and move POA to match POI on the M14. The Carbine functions great; shoots small groups. But with the windage tight to the right of the sightit still groups 6 MOA to the right of POA. elevation is perfect. What will fix this; is it the front sight?
@norwich93CMP
9 жыл бұрын
Front sight only fixes elevation by changing the height of the blade. What is needed is your rear sight base needs to be shifted to the left about a 1/4 inch or so. Then the rear sight needs to be staked so she doesn't shift. This should give you enough room to adjust windage with the knob.
