This is one of the most practical comparison between 8g vs 16g ram for Mac mini. 1080p with several tracks, commonly used in daily basis. Big and clear numbers on screen! Thanks for making it so simple!

Thanks. I'm about to buy the 16GB Mini and this clarifies that I wont gain much editing 1080p footage but will mainly appreciate the multitasking performance. Most other comparisons seem to be based on 4 and 8K footage, which is fair enough, but doesn't reflect what I will use most of the time editing video.

Thanks. Super useful. But about "future proofing," I've got burned doing that building my Windows PCs. You have to think of the whole system. In 3 years there will probably be an M4 that runs 400% faster than the M1. So you'll sell your 8GB M1 and buy a whatever-GB M4. My worry is about having too many tabs open in Safari. When I get my 8GB Mini in a couple of days, that's the first thing I'm going to try. If I can't have 25 tabs open, I'll take it back and get the 16.

Thanks for confirming what I was expecting. Considering the $200 increase over the base price for 8 Gb more of RAM, it is better to have a bare bone mini, and upgrade the machine in three years time. With all those Apple products, it seems the smart purchase is the lowest price, given electronics obsolescence. I have been using both my 2011 and 2013 iMac and MacBook Pro up to now, and while using the Affinity suite and iMovie can be slow, it is not unbearable. I am probably going to wait until the next M1 generation to purchase a Mac Mini.

no offense but thats not really what he said. He said for what he just did the the 8gb should be fine. For more multi tasking the 16gb would definitely help. In my experience the 8 works great. Part of the issue here is people are kinda passing by the fact that these are the very first pass at this so if you look at it that way these are amazing and more than enough for most people. I never really followed all this mac hupe until I think the last 12-18 months and a lot of this reminds me of when I did commercial photography. You have people getting way to wrapped up in the numbers or what is whatever vs learning your craft. For most people this mac mini for 699 is an amazing deal. It really is. The best part about apple is give it a year and if you want to upgrade the trade in value through Apple is pretty darn fair.
@swalls48
3 жыл бұрын
@@roguewavecreative we are arguing the same point. I bought the baseline for $650 on Amazon to edit my KZitem videos and I am so happy with the purchase. The 16 gb is the tiniest bit smoother when picking through frames on iMovie. I could afford the nicest one. So in my case, it really doesn’t make sense to “buy the best you can afford” as this suggests (in terms of memory/storage options). I am very happy with the baseline. Just need to use an SSD but transfer is so fast it’s fine. Baseline is good enough for me as a hobbyist user editing 720p 60frames. It never struggles or kills my experience with lack of power.
