That corrosion inside the housing looks identical to the problem the BMW N62 engine had with its coolant V channel cross pipe, incompatible metallurgy causing premature and excessive corrosion. How was that for expert testimony Tasos?

Funny how that coolant became so acidic and started attacking the aluminum. 20 years ago, GM had an issue with Dexcool doing that to engines. Even low mileage units!

Hello i need you advice my engine overheating , diagnotic tool shows thermostat 100% also try activate axilary pump one that responsible for charge air cooling clearly can see flow good and onother one make a sound but can se any action in expansion tank also when remove the return line from expansion tank nothing happens. Then i trick activate pump its drips few drops but no flow... so dont know do i need axilary pump or main pump with thermostat. No faults or P021700 thanks for advice

Ella re, have you changed a lot of coolant thermostat on the M177 ? Haven’t seen this problem on the UK forums

Will they be able to sleeve it and not affect the coolant channels in between the cylinders? I was thinking Nikasil or some other plating then use stock low friction rings with upgraded pistons and connecting rods🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️

My GLC63 is the shop right now with this issue. Warranty is taking care of it. 40,000 miles. 😒

@@hrtbrk1127 I believe you have an extension to this thermostat until 2028 or some mileage. Lucky for customers. Bad for techs
