when you released your space stapler design years ago, I stuck it's mechanism into a thomspon M1A1 and M1928a1. It's so great to see the rubber band gun master showing off his own Thompson after so long.

Why does the bolt stay in the forward position when the gun is cocked (like a closed bolt gun)? Isn't the Thompson an open bolt gun? Shouldn't the bolt stay in the rear position when the gun is cocked (kinda like RBguns MP40)?

@@samchan9484 It works in reverse. The bolt slams backwards to activate the rotor and the rubber band then resets the bolt. Technically, you could call it an open bolt, blow forward action.

@@parabellum_armsBut wouldn't it be more realistic if it functioned like RBguns MP40 (bolt is held all the way to the rear when a rubber band is loaded. When trigger is pulled, bolt goes all the way fowards and releases the rubber band, then all the way back to cycle the rotor and catch another rubber band on the bolt. Bolt is then held all way to the rear by the sear/trigger)? This would more closely mimic an open bolt gun like the thompson is.

In short, a real life Thompson smg has the bolt held in it's rearmost position when the gun is cocked/charged (since it's an open bolt gun). Your Thompson has the bolt held in it's forward most position, when the gun is cocked/charged (which is more like how a closed bolt gun like an AK-47 functions.)
