Most of the m2 carbines were actually m1 carbines with auto conversions, so many of the legal carbines in the US have m2 parts, inside, with only the selector switch and a couple parts missing. By looking through all the Second hand m1 parts kits, online, u can find all the missing parts u need. My personal carbine was brought back, after the war, with an m2 stock, with space for the selector.

These were made long before the days of computer generated schematic type videos. They were very effective in training soldiers who needed to see large detailed parts that could mimic the actual parts and functioning of their firearms. I am sure the Army still has these models somewhere in their vast network of depot storage areas, buried next to that box that contains the prize Indiana Jones was looking for! Lol!

They tried to use this as the basis for the SCAR mk.16 but they screwed it up by flipping the gas system upside down. I think an enlarged M2 carbine action would make a great assault rifle in 5.56 as long as they kept the M16 style charging handle and trigger group.

This gun is really sick. If they had adopted the 7mm British cartridge, this gun would basically be America's AK47. Stoner might have developed an entirely new assault rifle--but if they had kept the 7mm, the M16 would be far more effective than it is today.

If .30 Carbine was just slightly more powerful with say 100-300 ft/s more speed at the muzzle, it could be considered an intermediate cartridge, and thus the M2 Carbine would be the first assault rifle of the US. As is, the M1 Carbine has been taken successfully to 250-300m. That's a stretch though, so the M2 Carbine doesn't have the accuracy of the AKM (Has been taken to 300-400m), but it's lighter and has more controllability.

yes and it's cartridge is definitely powerful enough to qualify as an Assault rifle. the .30 carbine out of a M1 Carbine have 1,310J of kinetic energy. the New AK-12 firing the 5.45x39 has 1,390J of kinetic energy just 80 more and it qualifies as an assault rifle while .30 carbine is a shade behind so it definitely qualifies aswell. PDW's like the HoneyBadger and SCAR PDW are much weaker than the m2 carbine due to their short ~6inch long barrels compared to the M2 carbines 18inch and as a result of this both of them barely get over 1,000J of muzzle energy. .30 carbine is effective up to 300 yards aswell. in this video, he scores 15/25 hits at 300 yards and if you only include the last 2 since he admitted the first was his fault 11/15 for between 60-73% accuracy which definitely qualifies as effective. kzitem.info/news/bejne/k6Ww3I2XsaRnnIY
