Looking at Upgrading to either an M2 Macbook Air or a M1 PRO Macbook 14" I don't do a lot of "heavy" media content but I do use PR and AE occasionally. It's clear with no doubt after your review that the M1 PRO 14" can handle light to heavy media content. That said, what do you think about the M2 Macbook Air in regards to using it for occasional AE project and PR files since the air has no fans?

1. the m2 macbook pro is just a marketing trick to elevate the perceived value of the 14" and 16" pros and to mask the price increase of the new macbook air - those thin bezels pop way more in the store, if they stand next to an old model 2. it lets apple use up all their parts they have left for the old generation (fans, casing, batteries, displays, charging bricks) 3. get a bit more milage out of the machines they already have to produce those 2016 aluminum frames 4. food for content creators I'm no marketing expert, but it seems like apple sees those 4 points as more valuable then the bad publicity

I made the same choice (from Mac Intel). Base 14 inch M2 Pro 10-core CPU, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD. I do advanced video editing in 4k, blackmagic raw 6k, 10 bit (etc..) Never a hesitation, super fast. I did their same comparative tests. Same color correction they did, with LUTs color wheels, color board (and many other effects and transitions more). 5 min 4k (from Panasonic GH5), export in ProRes 422: 51 sec (25% faster than the result they got with M1 Pro). I repeated this several times (51 sec, 50, sec, 51 sec). So I have to assume that they either have an M2 Pro version with some issues or the M2 Pro chip has been optimized with some updates in the last few months.

No, the 13 inch is awful, with tons of noise and overshapening. In contrast, the 14 inch look significantly better, with more natural tones, significantly less noise, and more detail on the background.

Given I now use this A15 powered iPad Mini for almost everything I previously used my old i9 16” MBP for, I decided to give that old MBP to a family member in college. Instead of getting one of the new MBPs, I opted for the M1 Ultra Mac Studio. I hope to keep that thing for quite a number of years as a fantastic desktop.

I suggest you just refer to M1 and M2 (simple), jumping between screen sizes is a bit confusing

if you are seeing this video today, I just found a great discount on Amazon for the M1Pro. I bought this one on Apple Store and I returned it the same day, waiting for the new M2Pro but the price today on Amazon made me buying the M1Pro. Today is 1599.

i just tried to download a big shared file from google drive and it split into multiple zip files. turns out I could not even decompress the file as a whole. don't talk about preformance when this mac can't even properly decompress zip files

Cool vid but I feel it's very inappropriate to have a thumbnail that says "M2 is worse than we thought" when we know it's really just the 13" pro that really just needed to be taken off shelves to make more room for more m2 Mac airs

Dear Max tech team, I would like to see the following tests: Heat pads on a higher speced M2 MacBook Air. Heat pads on a M2 MacBook Pro to see if it makes any difference Full comparison between the latest intel MacBook Air and the M2 MacBook Air, in order to tame the expectations and shows how much the Air came. Maybe a comparison between the M2 MacBook Air and a pro device like the Mac Pro or the iMac Pro.

14 inch holds more value than the new M2. What a surprise. Like it is better in every categories.

this is a bit of an unfair comparison... M2 13" is a 256gb ssd with 8gb ram model vs the M1 Pro 14" which has 512gb ssd and 16gb ram Basically the M1 14" has double SSD and double RAM (plus the M1 pro chip)

these should be comparable? since m2 claimed 18% increase in versatility and power this is probably a rational match?

The 14” MBP model is the better machine but the 13” MBP is not a bad choice if all you want is the base configuration, the only thing that bothers me is that Apple removed the Touch Bar on the new models, yes I know most people don’t care about it but I love it.

Is that a M2 base chip vs M1 pro chip? if so, how will a M2 pro chip compare? And then the M2 base chip is actually really good then ?

Dont notice with my peepers much difference in the web cams , both passable , but could be a tad better imo , mics on both devices sound very similar , a little on the muffled side , but they are ..... ok . Speakers are definitely better on the 14 .

I’m pretty sure logic is dependent on the hard drive speed also as far as track count. Would love to see this test rerun with the M2 at 512,1Tb,4tb and the 8tb versions. Hopefully you guys get a couple of those

So it seems the MBP 14" M1 is a better buy over the M1 MBP 13". I'm headed to Costco tomorrow to buy the MBP M1 for $1599..00. I was hoping to wait next year for Apple to release the M2 on the MBP 14". I assume, had Apple put an M2 in the 14" MBP, it'd be faster that a 14" MBP with M1, correct? With a $400 savings, I'll settle for the 14" MBP with M1. I'm upgrading from a 2011 MBAir.
