Stumbled across your channel, I switched from a full frame and crop sensor Canon setup which included a 500mm f/4 prime about a year ago. I currently have the OM-1 and use the 100-400mm plus MC14, the lighter weight, smaller size has been a game changer! Thanks for posting a great video, you've gained a new follower Eric.

The RF 100-500L is a strong competior to this lens in quite a few ways. Prime vs zoom of course, but: - Similar price, weight and size - Super-sharp at any distance - Super quick focusing, great magnification - Fantastic IS+IBIS (And of course, Canon bodies coupled to this - whether FF or crop - have superb animal-tracking AF systems.)

Some of your best images I have seen. You should seriously try the Olympus 60mm macro on that body. As a portrait lens it is exceptional, let alone it's macro capability and it's affordable. Good stuff.

Panasonic has two fast zoom lens the 10-25 f1.7 and 25-50 1.7 both are the same size roughly the size of a full frame 24-70 f2.8 roughly 1700 dollars each. The next fast zoom is the Olympus 40-150 f2.8, I also have a Panasonic 50-200 f2.8-4. My Wildlife setup is a Fujifilm XH2 with the 100-400mm Fujifilm lens. Both the camera body and lens are stabilized and with the 40mp sensor allows for some cropping with out a loss of photo quality.

Great shots! Pro capture and long focal lengths need practice, I have a lot of these frustrating moments as well with my first attempts. If you love the Sync-IS, consider getting the 12-100mm f/4 (again?), it is truly fantastic and also unique to m43 with such specs. It is like glued to my OM-1.

This makes me very nostalgic for my micro four thirds gear. I switched to Fuji over 2 years ago but still miss m43. The Panasonic G9 has got to be my all-time favorite camera and I loved the 12-100mm Olympus f/4 lens.

Hello, Ireally liked the video! I almost only shoot wildlife with the same lens and the 100-400/5.0-6.3. Whwén it comes to the camera however, I have an advantage....you should get an OM1 again, precisely because of this lens!

I have to agree with your assessment of M43. It's basically good enough for almost anything except super-shallow DOF and low-light (above 12800 ISO). You mention some unique features like Pro Capture. Does FF have that? How about Live Composite? What about 120fps 4k (GH6) at a low price point? I would add some of those unique features too to the list.

@@bemboing4338 Sorry, I should have said "sharp" and super-shallow DOF. Many of those manual focus f/0.95 primes are not shallow and SHARP wide-open (with one or two exceptions). They also have considerable color shifts. I'm not interested in those lenses with so many compromises, but I'm also not interested in images that shallow either.

Great images! Interesting reflections on M43 too I’m very tempted buying into M43 with a rangefinder-style Lumix GX9 for travel and street photography. It’s a beautiful camera and great lens ecosystem. My main concern is the future of the system though. Will there be a GX10? The GX9 was launched in 2018 but is still a capable camera, it seems. I can either wait say twelve months until hopefully Panasonic brings PDAF to a newly released GX-series body, or buy a rangefinder-style Fujifilm X-E4 now and possibly sell it all again a year from now. I’m leaning towards the latter now. Anybody any thoughts? Thanks!

I would say so too - even if no more m43 gear would be made tomorrow, there would be a huge used market still for years to come. So don’t worry about that, I think it is unlikely to go away anytime soon. Like there are still some DSLR sold new and some people enjoy shooting film, including me.

Hi Eric, would like your opinion. Currently I have EM5iii but my GAS is eyeing on Fuji XT3. In your opinion, does Fuji XT3 have a similar IQ or far superior? My usage would be landscape and street photography. The video specs is a bonus for both of them.
@ericrjennings

XT3 is probably superior but it isn’t a huge leap … if you’re going to upgrade to FF.

I think it’s funny that me and you are going completely opposite routes. I’m selling off my entire MFT along with my Leica SL and will only be left with a Leica M10, Leica M10 Monochrom, and an old Olympus E-300 from 2005 😂 I just hated having to worry about which AF point to select, looking through an EVF not being as enjoyable to use, etc. Although I may just keep my Olympus E-M1 Mark III, 12-40mm, and trade my Olympus 17mm 1.8 for a PL 15mm f/1.7. Maybe get an Olympus 45mm f/1.8 because how cheap and good it is and much smaller than my current Leica 42.5mm f/1.2. I think I’ll miss MFT so that’s why I may just keep the 12-40mm and the E-M1 Mark III and those 2 primes for when I want to use a reliable AF camera with crazy good IBIS with one solid weather sealed lens. So I guess I won’t be selling off my entire MFT kit but all the expensive Panasonic Leica lenses will be gone for sure. MFT is definitely a solid system even today, especially with the insanely good IBIS. But the Leica M10 showed me what I really wanted.

The 75-300 is a fun lens because of its size. It's certainly not as sharp and fast but when razor sharpness isn't critical it's crazy to carry around a lens with 600mm of reach the size of a pop can. I like a vintage look to my shots sometimes so it works well for that. The 300 is still definitely on my radar because a 150-400 purchase would have me sleeping out in my shop. ha

I bought the 75~300 and found it to be as sharp as my 40-150 f4 pro when the 75-300 is stopped down to f8 around 280mm. I also use a dot sight because I could never get BIF in the right place in the frame. I am a newbie at BIF but am very happy with my results. 300 f4 is way out of my price range.

@@ericrjennings I went to SOny a few months ago. Honestly regret it a bit. Miss the features of my Olympus gear. A girl in Traverse City had what I thought was an E-M1 mark III with 2000 shutter clicks for $400. I was 1/2 in the bag from celebrating my birthday and bought it. When my wife asked to see it was when I realized it was a mark II lol She was nice enough to cancel the sale. Here I was thinking " damn this girl is giving this camera away"

Is it ok to carry body and lens like this? To carry such a lens with a body, not with a collar? I am new to 300mm lens, some people argue that we should carry it only with a collar...

The 300mm does render beautifully. I don't know if you have ever heard of the original four thirds super high grade lenses by Olympus. I have the 150mm f2 version with a four thirds to micro four thirds adapter....talk about beautiful rendering....enjoy..
You don't really gain any extra light with this setup. MFT is four stops darker than FF and you only gain ~one stop of light shooting at f4 on MFT vs f5.6/6.3 on full frame.
@ericrjennings
Жыл бұрын
That’s incorrect. M4/3 is not 4 stops darker. It’s 1/4 the surface area on sensor size. F/4 is f/4 regardless of sensor size when it comes to exposure. You’re confusing DOF with light.

I'm not one for picking a 'side' in photography (or any tech) and fighting for it to the death, but this argument always seemed like cope from FF users.
