So true about iPads appealing to younger generations who’ve only ever used touch devices. I think that’s also why Final Cut for iPad wasn’t just a clone of the desktop version. It’s more of a natural progression for someone who’s used the likes of Cap cut.

Great thoughts on the iPad being the personal computing devices for the "new generation"of creators! I recently just sold my 2018 pro 11 system just in time for the new ones to come out, but honestly I think I've realised that iPad is just not for me and I don't have a need for it. I am not a talented digital artists or music producer or a pilot that can really make the most out of the device, I've already have a phone and laptops that can do 99.9% of what I need to do... I feel like most people/ reviewer "complaining" about iPad being powerful but useless is just not the target consumers for these devices. There is a difference between using a device as a real tool versus just having it as a random gadget that we don't actually need, and most people/ tech enthusiasts fall in the latter group (which there's nothing wrong about). Still amazing to see how the hardware is getting more and more impressive year on year though!

Well said. Most tech reviewers are sitting in front of a laptop all the time. For me, this has replaced my laptop and I go to a desktop when I want to use Final Cut. All of this stuff, including the Mac isn't just for our main jobs. I have a company laptop for that. These devices are for my side hustles, hobbies. and consumption and the iPad does almost all of that. I could probably get all the way there if I wasn't too cheap to pay for Final Cut on mobile, but I have to get some use out of my Mac mini on occasion.

I think ipad os is purposely handicapped solely not to compete with apples macs/ to heavily encourage getting a mac to go with it. Wacom has been great for ever, & music production is generally done over a monitor. I think most people calling themselves “pros” are just people that want to justify the cost/be pretentious. Take this gen, it adds absolutely nothing but an OLED screen & a thiner design - pros don’t care much about that (we all have work devices that are simple but get the job done) - the “beauty” is for enthusiast & also yr avrg person that actually uses an ipad as their main content consumption device, which is wild (since an ipad cost a a higher end tv nowadays)

Good thoughtful review as ever. I've dropped from the M1 iPad Pro the new Air (both 11in). I just wanted the landscape camera position and it's made all my calls seem so much more natural. It's also backwards compatible with all the same accessories so that's a big saving too. As you rightly say, I think the Air is enough iPad for me based on the current iPadOS limitations and I still need a MacBook Pro for development. one of the key reasons they have made it lighter is so that the keyboard balances a bit better w it. Prev one was too top heavy. People complaining it doesnt run Mac OS fail to appreciate how much us fans of Ipad Pro a) value the focus of Ipad OS for work b) spend hours in front of Mac OS on desktop and enjoy using somethign else away from desk. Another key benefit is that the magic keyboard stops the on screen keyboard popping up and takign over half the brilliant screen- the magic keyboard is like givign you back half screen real estate. Excellent tech that is briliant for its differences to macbooks

One thing none of the reviews mention (can't understand why) - the screen corners are now so rounded that they clip the corners of a standard full-frame DSLR photo - this design decision is the opposite of pro. The speakers are also worse than on my 2018 iPad Pro. My 11-inch M4 arrived on 4 days ago... and it's going back tomorrow. No perceptible benefits (other than an OLED screen), and some very annoying faults. (Got to ask yourself why all these reviews seem to ignore that particular elephant...)

Great review! Your conclusion summed up my thoughts, including why Apple will never run macOS on it. iPadOS is a long-term investment in the future of PCs. Of course, Windows' 30-year headstart means it cannot compete on legacy and app coverage, but developers are slowly getting the idea that tablets may indeed become as popular as or more so than laptops, and Apple is leading that move by giving us desktop chips.

@sunnysingh01234 - I did exactly that. Traded in my M2 11 for the M4 11 and got the pencil but not the MKB. The cons being the cost (although I did get a $470 trade in credit on the M2) and the pros being the screen (it's fricking amazing IMHO, big upgrade), the placement of the FaceTime camera (I forever had my hand over it when I was holding the M2), the thinness and weight (which is noticeable), and the new pencil which is pretty awesome (haptic feed back and all). I can't comment on the new MKB, but I had the original version and it was my all time favorite typing experience and the new one seems like a nice upgrade with the same experience based on the reviews I've watched. The function and esc key are a major addition along with a haptic track pad which is larger.

A lot of people say there is no "other" tablet like you, but keep in mind the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is 14.6 inches with a high resolution of 2960 x 1848 pixels. Also, it is 5.5mm thick which yes makes the new iPad Pro 0.9 mm less; which is it enough to buy an iPad Pro? The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra came with a pencil for free.

Much brighter display on the iPad, and I believe the iPad has about 3x the power. People say that power doesn’t matter in a tablet, but with my use cases I’ve frequently wanted more power in my M2 iPad Pro. Not to mention the app ecosystem.

I have nothing against Samsung tablets but the apps / support / integration with macOS just isn’t there for me and those really help with my workflows

Is this a review? Felt like an ad. No real constructive criticism. Is the product worth the investment? I felt like I got so little insight into the product.

Oh please. The new iPad is awe inspiring. Accept it. You don’t need to buy one yourself if you don’t want to. Regardless, it’s the natural upgrade.
