Maaike's senior project seamlessly combines Social Science and Cognitive Science as she explores the development of a novel instrument to measure loneliness in nursing homes. Her academic focus lies within Social Sciences, specifically in the fields of sociology and economics. However, her curiosity extends to Law and Cognitive Science as well.
Maaike's choice of this project stems from its multidisciplinary nature. To gain a comprehensive understanding, she actively engaged with professionals working in nursing homes, immersing herself in their environment by volunteering. This hands-on approach allowed her to truly grasp the realities of the work involved. Additionally, she collaborated closely with Dr. Andringa, an expert in cognitive science and elderly care, as well as a Ph.D. student from Erasmus who is conducting research on loneliness in nursing homes at a broader scale.
This senior project has ignited a passion within Maaike, inspiring her to pursue this area of study in her future career. She is actively considering pursuing a Master's degree to further develop and expand her research in this field.
