Amazing you got to put Linux mint on it! I found my macpro1,1... local church threw it away near a dumpster so I snatched it. Spent about $85 on new ram and new 3ghz processors and flashed it to 2,1. It’s a fun machine, running lion and El Capitan.

Came across a Mac Pro - BTO.CTO - Mac Pro2,1 A1186 - 2138 with two 3GHz Quad Core Xeon X5365 (Clovertown) processors. It has 5 gigs of ram and 4 hard drives, a 250 and three 500s. Very little modern software Mac software will run on this machine without major and expensive mods. Been trying to install several different versions of Linux onto it without success. Most installers are not recognized and the ones that are recognized, start but all stop at some point without giving any error codes. Etcher will not run on Snow Leopard and hard crashes on El Capitan - system just turns off about 3.4 of the way thru an etch. I got it for the price of going to get it, a drive of about 200 miles. Studied and followed many methods for installing Linux on Macs but none work so far on this machine. Any ideas? Thanks.

Can i use an Live-Mint-Stick to detect the type of machine? I've got an offer for two Mac Pros without any description and without MAC-OS Harddrive. THX

Sorry, I didn't catch your comment sooner. The EFI in the 1,1 or 2,1 won't let Mint 64 bit edition install into the machine without some tricky mods that I didn't want to mess with, (wiki.debian.org/InstallingDebianOn/Apple/MacPro/2-1), so, I installed Mint natively from a live USB on another similar 64 bit machine (old Dell server), then moved the SSD to this machine, and Mint adjusted itself to the MAC hardware. Now Mint boots natively in 64 bit. So I cheated, kinda like Kirk and the Kobayashi Maru. ;-)

That's a Radeon HD6460; not anything great, but relatively low cost, HDMI, fan-less, (I hate replacing video cards because the crappy fans they use die too quickly), and I don't game on this machine. Best of luck!

great video thanks for sharing. Do you still use this today? What graphics card do you use? Did you install Hurky mods (spelling?) El Capitan image ?

I still use this machine on a limited basis; it is just a stock machine and GPU witch is more than enough for how I use it. I have since done a 5,1 with full upgrade to NVME drive, better GPU, CPUs, and flashed for Mohave.
