too right, majority of students can get way with the most basic of modern computers as the most advance program they touch is word. and even higher demand programs that require CAD, GIS and stat software is easily managed with any i core and a few gb ram, looking at around $700. It makes me laugh seeing so many ppl around campus saying they need their $2000+ mac books to get through their PR degree.

not a big Apple fan, but you brought up a good point with the value their products hold for resale. You made me think, good job! 👌
@Viewer13128
6 жыл бұрын
i was going to say that point should not be a valid point when i heard him say it. just because a price has been stable doesn't mean it will be stable forever (otherwise we would all be rich if price was that simple to predict). with so many factors affecting price and technology trying to advance constantly, and so many new products beginning to rival or surpass apple quality recently, you have no guarantee that resale value will be strong forever. E.g., before argument for Apple was build quality and OS. Recently, the argument is well the OS is more stable (after competitors caught up with build quality and had better specs and price). In fact, if there is a stable trend, then it is a trend that competitors are catching up. You do not know when Apple will lose this advantage. In fact, based on this trend, you do not even know if Apple will be forced to price their products cheaper in a few years' time.
@Heatsunk
6 жыл бұрын
Azu Shi, wow you have some time on your hands 😂. But yeah I see what you mean, and as I said I'm not an apple fan, but its said that the best prediction of the future is the past and as a general rule apple products have held their value pretty good... But you could be right, I'm just some random crappy KZitemr that likes tech 😜....
@Viewer13128
6 жыл бұрын
+Uber Tech Please don't call yourself "some random crappy KZitemr that likes tech". I was just saying that I don't think that point should be valid--I was not making a personal attack on you. And I believe what you meant by "the best prediction of the future is the past" actually means historical data/statistics/or something like that. If so, then we know that no trend lasts forever. So the fact that they have held their value pretty good for a long time actually means it may not keep doing so when you apply your saying. But putting that aside for now, we can look at how things are going right now instead of just applying general rules of thumb. I believe I read somewhere that Apple was losing shares to even cheap chrome books. So in consideration of where the current industry is heading, it is possible that Apple will be forced to make compromises within the years to come (or maybe even starting as soon as with the new Macbook Air). It should also be considered that in the past, all reviewers have agreed that the "premium feel" belonged to Apple products. You can already see obvious signs of change as now all the reviewers are saying that other products have caught up (and are expected to keep improving). In addition, they now emphasize on the pricing now that OS is the only difference. You have to consider why the past was the past for Apple. In this case, it was because there was a lack of competition in the past. Now that there are competitors, the past data must factor in the new data. And this is also why trends don't last forever--because there are always factors that are changing or new that will affect the future either positively or negatively. Just because the past x years was positive does not indicate that any new factor will result in a positive change rather than negative. I am not saying things will suddenly go backwards (as the past indicates it would normally not). But I am saying not to buy Apple products thinking their value will hold the same way the previous product did in previous years, especially in the near future (unless the situation changes again).
@Heatsunk
6 жыл бұрын
Azu Shi, I wasn't stating apple products will hold their value forever and I'm not going to go buy a MacBook because I think it will hold value (or for any other reason) I was just stating that it was a point I don't hear often and it made me think. But I digress, your comments also made me think, and make a good point! Disclaimer: it's hard to convey things like tone through text, please don't misconstrue my words I'm not mad at you or making fun of you I'm being sincere. Random nonsence: Funny, I use that qoute alot and still manage to get it wrong every time SMH. Also I reserve the right to call myself a crappy KZitemr 😎...

+Uber Tech Well your "random nonsense" at the end seems to show you're quite above the average of a typical person. but yes it is your right :P Also, I knew you weren't buying it for that sole reason since it wasn't a main motivator for consumption--that plus I watched your video too. And last, if I had misconstrued anything, your last comment had clarified everything.

If you are considering getting a macbook for school, consider no longer, the macbook fulfills every need and especially for me being in a private school, its just amazing. Processor, shouldn’t that make the new model a lot better than the 2017 model? I’m using it for video editing too. Should I keep the 2017 model or change it to the 2018?

Forgetting the weight, the extra size of the 15 inch doesnt make sense for the average student. Every now and again a student will come to class with a 15 inch laptop and everyone notices the size. Nice in a dorm room for students who don't have TVs, but awkward rd in class and backpacks.
@navigator2113

nah it’s not the weight it’s the size. 15 inch is way too big for students since at that point it becomes harder to carry around and becomes kinda like a portable pc rather than a portable macbook if you know what i mean. makes sense to get the 15in if you don’t see yourself taking it to class or around everywhere you go, otherwise the 13in is perfect.

For a real student, buying windows are stupid and overpriced. Time lost to troubleshooting is lost study time. Random crashes costs thesis and projects and for a laptop that only costs a little bit cheaper than macbook, it won't last as long. Be a smart student and invest more upfront for a product that's stable and last longer.

HappyEmigrant Apple have the best operating system its more secure and they also have the best after sales Service and im speaking from personal experience , back in 2015 I bought a brand new windows laptop the moment I switched it on it had a virus which cost me over £100 to get rid of , in 2016 I bought a MacBook ive never had a problem regarding security you cannot say that with windows

@@ianbuchan1793 I went to Apple to fix Black a backscreen problem on my macbook, they said that overall will cost me $1300 (screen, circuit etc). I went to a local repair Shop. I'm definitely considering buying one in a year or two. It is a lot of money, but overall it looks like a good investment. Maybe I won't be eating out so often for a few months after I buy it, but even if it only helps me succeed in one or two classes it will be worth it in the long run.

Thanks, I’m a student as well. I currently have an old MacBook pro(2012 version) and it has been lagging more and more especially when I want to open up a big software and even when I open up my MacBook in general. Definitely think it is time for a major upgrade. Thanks man!

I bought MacBook pro 13" with touch bar, i' m pretty happy about my decision. I liked the design and of course I like editing videos, photos and stuff like that. It's very fast, the quality of graphics is amazing. I recommend to every apple users to buy Macbook Pro 13" with touch bar. By the way the new keyboard is awesome. I hope i can use it more than 5 years.

Macbooks are unquestionably the best computer to code. Not sure what kind of university you attend, but for top universities that teaches Unix based courses Mac is a godsend.

Qinghui Yu Not sure honestly, like I’m not against Macs they’re really nice laptops I have an Air myself and it’s still works great. Want to install Unix sometime see how it works. Personal preferences though from colleagues who love their “extra” little things like touchscreen and the ports.

I'm a computer science student myself and never once have I wanted to touch the screen or plug in anything. Everything is done with keyboard only, code transfer is done with git and scp. Mac is also much more customizable than Windows(Like imgur.com/TchEVtT ). I think Windows is required for business and some engineering disciplines mainly because there are specific excel plugins and circuit designer(Quartus) being only available to Windows. This is definitely not the case for programmers, plus that Mac OS is pretty close to the ideals of computer science with a native posix compliant bash environment, while windows is the polar opposite.

I was actually looking to buy a MacBook pro 13 inch as my daily drive but what really put me off was the extremely low travel keyboard and the lack of ports and after a month of looking at alternatives I finally found the Acer Swift 3 in stellar blue with an i7 8550u (just like the macbook pro along with a Nvidia MX150 dedicated graphics card and my god, its by far the best laptop experience I have had here are a list of things I really like 1. it's thinner and just little lighter than a MacBook pro 2. the battery easily gives me about 8-10 hours of usage or 2-3 days of on and off use 3. I can play most games that I want with a good frame rates 4. and how can I forget the full aluminum chassis (in blue which is my favorite color) 5. lastly although the trackpad isn't as huge as the one on the MacBook pro it does phenomenal job (very fluid and accurate) it does have the windows precision diver. a few more mentions it has a finger print scanner (which works with Windows hello) the keyboard is just perfect cant really fault it and the amount of customization windows 10 offers helps make the laptop your very own. the only down side it costs just as much as a MacBook pro without the touch bar. by far I have zero regrets and I can confidently say that its better than a MacBook pro (that is if you don't final cut pro)
