Born in Macc...left in the mid nineties ...the internet has killed it. Glad I grew up in a town with so much life. The pubs, the pubs, the pubs......And I do remember the sex shop down the bottom of Chestergate.😂 Last time I went in the town hall was to see Silverwing! Rock and Roll are four letter words....can't beat it. A and A records. The record shop down the bottom of Mill Street...forget its name. The curry house on Chestergate...again, the name escapes me. The best tarka dhal I've ever eaten. The Macc lads, and big Al Stam. The old railway line. The Bollin was a cess pit. Zero life in it. The Chinese chippy on Mill Street....fell in love with one of the girls in there...she was having none of it.

I used to spend many summers in mac in the 1960s with my grandmother who had a hat shop on Bridge Street called "the bonnet box". I also remember the man she rented the shop off called Mr Edwards who always walked in the road and never the pavement. My nan lived in a house on king Edwards Street, now gone I think, and before that pinfold Street now also gone I think. I also remember "Granellis" ice cream bar on the high Street, and also visiting the museum in the park. Mac has changed a lot, and my "sat nav" in my head is still set at around 1966, I must at some point revisit mac, and my nans grave, I have not been there for a very long time, but have very happy memories of the place.

In an alternate reality, Macclesfield could have been my home, had my father's coin toss landed differently. Faced with the choice of Wales or Macclesfield, destiny was left to the whims of chance. The story goes that my father, holding that decisive coin on our future. With each side representing a different destination, the coin soared into the air, leaving our lives hanging in the balance. In a twist of fate, the coin came down on the side of Wales. Yet, I often find myself contemplating my life I might have led in that charming town of Macclesfield friendly community voted one the nicest places to live in the UK. stir my imagination what if the coin landed on heads. The memory of that coin toss lingers, in my head even today playing with my thoughts. How different my life could have been.

Great video, used to live in Macc and remember when it was so busy. Times have changed unfortunately and it is moving to more of a social side of things with more cafes/bars and restaurants unfortunately, but this may bring back some shops again too. I have moved to Congleton recently and it is definitely having alot more investment and turning into a really great town. I think Macclesfield will come back, it is just going through a tough patch at the moment.

My Mum’s family had a butchers shop in Mill Street - killed off by……..the arrival of Tesco. Big corporations kill off all the small traders.

It's sad to see but unfortunately it's not just Macc, most towns centers are rapidly becoming ghost towns. All the money that was previously spent creating pedestrian precincts to encourage shoppers only to build large out of town retail parks... Doesn't make sense.

Visited for the first time since leaving 28 years in October. Funny how its not what you remember and a lot smaller. Definitely not somewhere I'm in a hurry to get back to. Sad for those that live there though. On a positive - got up to watch the Silkmen play, highlight of my trip back to the UK and Macc!

Oh my word! Not the Macc I remember, how damn sad! Strange they go to a retail park, people have to drive to get there, when they say they want less cars on the road..it is killing the town centres. People should get on to the council, after all, the people do employ them and pay their wages...maybe they need reminding lol......just thought, who's going to use the cafe's when the streets are empty of shoppers? 🤔
