Bonus: flying close to the ground at this speed would destroy exposed biological organisms by overpressure, rupturing lungs and pulverizing livers and knocking the contents of the cranial compartment against its walls, leading to intracranial bleeding and, if the heart continues pumping, increasing the cranial pressure until the brain is squeezed downward through the base on the skull slowly, extruding brain matter through the small opening in a creamy mix of tissue and cerebrospinal fluid and blood. A superb way to fly by and show your ability to homogenize and maybe even pasteurize anyone around the world. Actually, the US considered a direct-impingement nuclear reactor powered aircraft with air as primary working fluid, with the unfortunate side-effect of shedding radioactive fallout in its wake, having the advantage of making the side of the planet it would fly over slightly deadly radioactive, in addition to the before-mentioned homogenizing and pasteurizing of the life-forms it would overfly as part of the interesting once-in-a-lifetime airshow. Unfortunately the US of A considered that such a development on its part would raise the interest of the US of SR to acquire the same capabilities, as usual, and the program was sadly shelved. The upside today is the renewed interest in new and innovative ways to homogenize and pasteurize bipedal verbose organisms with opposable thumbs and diverging opinions, and we may still see such aircraft flying soon above us. See SLAM -- kzitem.info/news/bejne/pZB-tYKHen-HZ20 @Mr. Snuffleupagus kzitem.info/news/bejne/pZB-tYKHen-HZ20. The SR72 would be great, as far as technology, but absolutely disastrous for life on this planet. For one, imagine a bird-strike, or even an entire flock of birds. Then imagine its impact on the thin shell of the atmosphere already frequently raped by fast-moving streaks of air-breathing objects. I understand people just HAVE TO be ready to kill each other at any time, but for Christ's sake, give everyone swords and other sharpened objects and let them have at it to their heart's content, or play airsoft or paintball if human life is such a treasured thing as proclaimed by everybody. All I could think about is that I wouldn't be able to get as much money and energy as expended for such an aircraft, not just in my entire lifetime, but who knows how many millions of lifetimes. Let's just colonize space and give every political belief its own planet, I say! Send the blues to one side of the galaxy, and the reds to the other. A few thousand light-years of separation should ensure critical mass would not be reached until humans mature enough to no longer act like chimpanzees; no offense to the noble chimpanzee species.

I think this might be underselling it actually. If the camera’s directly below the aircraft, and MS flight simulator’s world is a sphere the same as the real world, then a point directly below the Darkstar is actually going to be travelling significantly slower than the aircraft, the same way that the tip of the second hand on a clock moves quicker than its pivot.

To be fair, there must be a *_lot_* of people leaving comments here who've never seen video of a jet breaking the sound barrier at a 'mere' Mach 1. This is 'visualized' video, as stated in the description. Accurate for *_10_* times the speed of sound? No way. Clap your hands in a big empty concourse, or yell in the wilderness from a cliff and wait for the echo. That sound returning to you is traveling at about 1,120 feet per second. A jet traveling at the speed approximated here might be going Mach 1. Search for video from airshows and other 'fly-bys'. At Mach 10 -- which is for all intents and purposes impossible at this altitude and with a non-rocket engine -- a southerly flight from New York, timed at maximum speed as it leaves the city limits, would find the craft 205 miles away over Washington, D.C. in about 95 seconds. Watch this again and use your imagination if you think that this represents tenfold supersonic speed. The passing landscape would be a literal blur at more than 7,600 MPH. At about Mach 3.3 and 85,000 feet the SR-71 Blackbird is the reigning supersonic champ among jet-powered planes, with a record flight of 1:04:19:89 from L.A. to D.C., almost 34 years ago to the day as I write this on March 10th, 2024. A few minutes more than an *_hour_* coast-to-coast, and at a speed almost two-thirds 'slower' than Mach 10. That reality makes this admittedly fun video absolutely absurd.

Remember that Minuteman ICBMs go mach 24. Sub launched tridents mach 25. Russian American exchange would deliver payload in 27-36 minutes. This speaks more about the size of the Earth than the speed of Mach 10. Mach 10 is insanely fast. More than 10 times the speed of a normal commercial airliner. And it still takes 5 hours to traverse the entire globe. Gotta marvel at how big Earth is.
@MisterFazbe

The speed of sound in dry air at 20°C is approximately 343 meters per second (m/s). Therefore, 10 times the speed of sound would be: 10 * 343 m/s = 3430 m/s This is roughly equivalent to 7,673 miles per hour (mph) or 12,349 kilometers per hour (km/h). It's important to note that exceeding the speed of sound, also known as breaking the sound barrier, can have significant consequences. For example, it can create a sonic boom, which is a loud explosive sound that can damage property and harm people. Additionally, objects traveling at supersonic speeds experience increased aerodynamic drag and heat generation, which can pose challenges for aircraft and spacecraft design. Is there anything else you'd like to know about the speed of sound or supersonic travel?
