Some how… even though you never really show us by actually doing it, I can always understand what your saying. I love all these tips. Thanks!

Might be a little silly but the whole time you were mentioning the 1 thread per inch I kept wondering what a steep screw would be used for. That’s kind of a tall pitch IMO

John once mentioned he ran 1 thread per 3 or 4 inches to cut in water channels for cooling a part. You might also be making a 2 or 3 inch diameter bolt. There's oddball use cases out there. -Cameraman

It's for a large movement per Rev, while also maintaining power thread strength, so the thread isn't overloaded add another start. A milk bottles cap had multi start so you can unscrew quickly

The diameter of the screw is not important, the pitch is, Is it a metric lead screw? 5mm pitch? next question what are you trying to thread?

Your first 6 min. totally confusing. Show me this multi start thread in real life. Seems to me if the lead screw is still running at 1 thd./in, all thread paths will be 1 thd./in with thd. grooves running along side one another down the material?

The thread on a flypress would be something like that - a multistart thread with maybe 1 - 2" lead.

The thread on the milk jug you opened this morning is probably multistart. So are many soda bottles.

Yes each of the 4 threads will advance 1" per revolution, and each will be 1/4" apart when looking along the length. If looked at on the end each of the 4 "starts" will be 90degrees apart.

Lots of large industrial valve stems have multi start threads. It makes for a faster operation of opening and closing of valves with threaded stems.
