what amazes me is that you manage to retain the feeling of the original from animation to sound effects, something that most animators of today fail to replicate in bringing back the old school anime to today.

This is how you use hightech animation technology, you try to be as faithful as possible. As only true enthusiasts understands that it is not all about the visuals and the dialogues, but just as important is the feel and the atmosphere the story is trying to portray.

You're clearly at a level where you already know how good your work is so I'm going to give some feedback instead of blind praise (but goddamn, I LOVE this, I do just want to say that too). I am by no means an expert, these are just the things I notice. I hope even a little bit of it is helpful to you. It might help, fading the opacity a bit when a line terminates akin to G-Reco. It sort of helps simulate some of the play of black against a cell photography assembly (which usually results in color bleed from the other colors, or line push where the color pushes the line inward or outward adding a second layer of banding) silhouettes Your play with line thickness is masterful -- though you need edge-terminator blending on the rims since artists have the habit of withdrawing lines earlier than the intersecting edge which is especially clear on the intakes and some of the square-forms which are slightly "too perfect". I've heard of people using a texture to drive the likelihood of that effect so they can paint a black/white layer that drives that shader, giving it really fine control? Similarly, to do things based on the way the light hits the surface? Honestly this is your baby so I think you know what's best. The shading feels like it needs a few "licks" in a second pass for the darker areas, since it tends to curve up and into the pale band to indicate curvature that's not really "there". I can't tell, but are you altering the render-normals of the forms to influence the shadows without changing the geometry? The starfield blurring, the movement curves, the color palette, the play of classical illustrator effects for the explosions, fire and engine plumes is all wonderful. I love this. Magnifico.
@87render_official

Thank you for your feedback, I always appreciate it when someone took their time to write something longform. The linenart is a mixture of getting it done in the render with another post effect to get them more imperfect. I still havent found a method I am totally happy with and still experimenting. I use blender3d so whenever there is an update there are improvements in the lineart workflow. I do alter the normals of the 3d object to get the anime look. Will keep note of the licks in the darker areas. I am happy you like it, I am currently working on another vid which is the most ambitious yet. stay tuned :D

@@87render_official Rad. I imagine you probably already know at least two of these, so at least one of them should be helpful to you for describing 3D forms. The examples are characters but I imagine they apply to lots of things. Topology tricks: kzitem.info/news/bejne/po1srXZ9pYJ2pqQ Proxy rendering phase (badass): kzitem.info/news/bejne/mIGwzoKPsqJnZnY Proxy blending (very cool stuff) kzitem.info/news/bejne/uXukl5aOnnlqlaQ Normal editing (workflow might be different, so there's a chance to see how someone else does the same thing): kzitem.info/news/bejne/rImi25hufXiJeKA I post this because I find when I do programming for game stuff even if its stuff I already know about, its often good to see how lots of other people do the exact same things cuz the inconsistencies in their techniques or methodologies or process often reveal a higher truth about the principle of what's being done. It leads to further refinement and you end up with knowledge that they don't have, as a sum of their differences.
