Great video, or maybe I should say it could have been a great video had you listened more and talked less. Did he say he aligns the spine in the forward position, you were too busy TALKING when he was telling you this info. Next time get the important info on video and stop moving the damn camera all over the place, yes I know you're not a professional. Why didn't you get what he considered the difference was between a correctly aligned shaft to an incorrectly aligned shaft by way of hitting a few into the screen and showing the numbers. Next time you're going to do a technical video make sure you capture the technical points of WHY you're doing it. Yes they will always be the naysayers who always say this is BS and spine aligning doesn't work etc etc, but this guy believes it improves strikes so let's hear what he has to say technically. And what about the counter balancing, you know what he was starting to discuss at the end while you kept talking and then you ended the video....WHAT! Now go back and redo the video and don't miss the important stuff like reading the digital scale when he's trying to show you the numbers(you know the important stuff). Great video idea, just redo, LOL. Thanks.

@@kourt2469 - With the softest flex axis in line with the target the shaft tends to bend in line with the intended line of flight which minimizes weird shaft behavior. In addition, that means the stiffest axis is perpendicular to the target line, minimizing shaft droop. That makes hitting the center of the face more often much easier.

When I was last fitted I had my shafts "PURE'ed" , there are a bunch of videos on it. It is a proprietary (club fitter has to license) dynamic analysis process that is supposed to identify the most stable orientation of the shaft dynamically and allow the club maker to then align this axis with the club face. With this process you get a 2 page report on each shaft and how much the performance of the club was stabilized/improved by going through the process. As an example the shaft in my 9 iron was identified as having to be installed into the club head 148.8 degrees rotated from logo up position thereby stabilizing its dynamic oscillation by 95.35%. The dynamic vertical deviation with the logo up was 8.623" (21.9cm) after identifying the most stable orientation of the shaft, the deviation was reduced to .401" (1.01cm).

In the mid 1980s I was so called fitted for irons, etc etc, it didn't work ok. Pay ur money for shaft flex, angle, lie etc. That's all u need. It's not rocket science. The difference between x stiff.stiff, regular is huge. Fitting in my opinion after 40 golfing is, swing speed and ur lie angle. We that are not pros or top amateurs is huge difference, we won't see a big difference to our games with top shafts or top irons. I was fitted for frequency shafted irons when I was 10 handicap, they didn't improve my game. The only time time I saw improvement is when I went to rifle shafts. All same. Then it gets to u knowing ur game. I've been 5 handicap since I was 33 and I'm 58 now. Been as low as 3 but I don't play that much anymore. Practise ur short game, wedges 100 yrds in, if u do u and play proper tees as we lose distance aging u can keep ur handicap and get better. There is no club or clubs out there that will make a difference.

I wish shaft manufactures would pre-align their products. I think it's the least they could do after charging what they do for a steel pole. The money they spend on r&d and marketing, they could add that bit of marketing to their product stating that they are "optimally configured for consistency". When shafts cost as much or more than the rest of the club, we should all expect them to give it more than an automated machine applied sticker.

When one shaft gets an 5800 and it dips to 5700 during the rotation - what are the units? Is there a bigger difference between expensive shafts and less expensive shafts? This is why I spine align all of the Shafts I install. This is not a new technology. We’ve been using pureing and spinning for years. The only exception that I’ve found is that it is hard to find spines on KBS Shafts.

How about "residual bend" in a golf shaft that effects the results from "feel" based spine finders? If the golf shaft is not perfectly straight it will throw off the deflection measurments from the load cell. Hence, using differential deflection is a way isolated lack of "staightness" in a golf shaft. That is, deflect the shaft a large amount then deflect a small and find the difference in the two measurments. Do this around the whole shaft and find the largest difference between the large and small deflection to find the hard side of the shaft. Easier way: FLO the shaft and find which side is the hard side using a frequency meter.

He sounds like a South-African. I assume the spine is created when the flat piece of metal is either rolled into shape on a mill or pressed, then the seam fused with a laser like normal tubing? Gonna read up on the manufacturing to get a better idea. Makes sense to align the spine to load the shaft in the right direction as you want deflection of the shaft in the same direction of travel, if not the axis of the shaft would slightly go off alignment and also the full potential energy would not be utilised if this is not done correctly.

For clarity, is the softest flex (the top of the shaft in the machine) installed in the club head facing the target? That is the way I do it, adjusted for FLO. That way the stiffer axis is vertical and that minimizes the shaft/head droop at impact. There are a few companies that test their shafts before putting on the graphics. Their labels are consistent in position, but those companies (and/or shaft models) are rare. Typically it is only the higher end graphite wood shafts.

I think the machine is showing some numbers. but are the shafts really the most robust at their top position or just somewhere around the shaft axis? Flowin process will show usually the real spine existing somewhere in the first quadrant or less.. he didn't flow the positions per se so I would imagine the flow existing somewhere around vertical lines and spine would exist somewhere in the sidelines (either side if lefty or righty)
