I’m a retired locomotive engineer. You have to have 75 pounds of air on the brake pipe to set the brakes. We had the engine set at 90 pounds, but as soon as we had 75 pounds on the brake pipe we would set the brakes.

How do I send you packages ? My dad is a WW-2 veteran one of a slim number left he's 95+ and doing fairly well.....my oldest brother was a Navy vet/ Nam .... He passed in 1990.... I ALWAYS take care of our Veterans......God bless and thank you for your service and these timeless videos.... I found your channel by accident a couple of days ago and have been hooked ever since ! 15 year Medically retired Veteran here. Veterans are treated very well. I was medically retired. I have a pension and 2 free health care plans. The Veterans Administration and U.S. Army Tricare Health insurance. All FREE, for my service to this great country. So. WE ARE TREATED VERY WELL!

Shoestring you sure are great at relaying your old story's, I can't imagine how you know you've been to Alaska 21 times! I would have to be keeping a detailed log for that haha! I just can't stop watching your videos it does amaze me the gen knowledge you retain of dates names and numbers and such.

I've made a camera tripod out of a selfie stick bracket and a old camera tripod I found in a salvation army dumpster , both were free and it works pretty good and is stable and easy to handle as well. Sorry for not being able to salute you brother . I'm a Honorably Discharged U.S.Marine myself God bless brother and many salutes to you . It's an honor to watch your videos and learn about the railroad from you. You have a fan for life and as soon as I'm able to I'm going to send you a donation to help you out with supplies and food and whatever you may need on the rails .

I really enjoy your stories! I also have a pair of Bushnell binoculars I have owned since the 80’s! They are a good brand and hold up very well! Also I have been to Barrow twice, very cold and desolate up there!

You might find something such as a tripod for a cell phone camera at Best Buy, they carry things like that. You definitely need a good handle anyways for when you're on the train, certainly don't need to be losing it.

Shoestring you was talking about thunder heads and storms at the end there - we just had the biggest hail I have ever seen here in Texas the town next to me Burkburnett had some that was 14 inches that went through roofs and ceilings.

Haaa, yep, I pretty much had figured you to be a vet, your ways of field expiedancey, very organized and know how to travel light and defentally a very sharp and intelligent man you are.. I finely found a note someone left here talking about your being a helicopter mechanic, was it Army you were in ? I served In the Army , Combat engineers, heavy equipments operator and understand your finding peace in your travels, I do better too bushwacking and traveling as well...enjoy, safe travels brother. I totally enjoy your vidoes, thanks for sharing.

Pull the two eyes of the binoculars apart, scissors style, and press back to readjust, to remove black spots they will generate themselves, as well as twisting the little ends to focus.

I just subscribed today June 2nd, and I'm a 64yo retired Canadian underground miner, anyways veterans and old people are treated like dirt in Canada , so it's not only your veterans that are treated with no respect, just saying....btw, being a life long railway nut, I have already by watching your videos learned several things that I could never get the information on, like how the air brakes actually work, and all about the coupler operation too. Thanks so much, you peaked my interest now!

ive been holed up last few yrs, cant wait to get back out to open roads. did a lil hoppin back when i was younger but got 2 dogs now. so i traded in my hoppin cars to a jeep wrangler with big tires & a teardrop like camper. we mighta crossed paths in santa cruz, calif or tacoma wa..........be safe brother

Glad you're back out. Stay away from alkaline water (no benefits) and stick to the Smart water or Gatorade (the Smart water has an additional electrolyte over the Gatorade). The electrolytes are extremely beneficial to you while out exerting yourself. Thanks for sharing you're personal life, adventures and knowledge.

shoestring this might be something you know already in case not on the binockaners on the right eyepiece there may be “coarse” adjustment (0, 1,2,3) just about an inch from the eyepiece usually snugged up against the handle part. Close left eye and dial that on. Then if you play with the distance between eyes (up, down ) the two fields will blend if you try to look past the target in view. The eye cups you dial up and down that the eyepiece cover attaches

when I go hunting or out in the woods I got some long sleeves shirts from goodwill I will spray them like spray paint on the ground with deet then put the shirt on or wrap it around my waist then when I get back to my car I put them in my trunk so I don't smell like deet yes watch out for deet it will melt plastics real bad
