i only had a casual lil fujifilm pocket-camera with half-battery and my mostly-filled iphone this time bc i was at this festival to really be there with the music, and yet as this madi show progressed i began to get more and more thankful i had started to tape with what i had. i'd always known she was brilliant, and yet it became strikingly clear that even more than those past times i'd seen her, she had spent the wacky quarantime we've all known woodshedding, blossoming, becoming even more of a musical supernova and giant of our gen. even still, in the same tent that had hosted 5-600 people for shawn mullins the night before, housed a spattering of folks in the front handful of rows, all silent and amazed with what they were witnessing. i view this concert as an important moment in time. hopefully the beginnings of wave II of one of the best songwriters of our era; the next batch of musical loveliness will be even more expansive, and even her renditions of her classic tunes here were all brought deeper than before.
the entire setlist (as pictured) is only partially contained here unfortunately, but i feel honored to put a taste of this show here. i obviously own no rights to any material, but just believe it to be a gift in time as this music takes shape performance-wise. that list is:
beauty into cliches
all i've ever known
pin it down
hospital
song in my head
broken harvest
raechel
inventing the wheel
looking alive
in from japan
something to believe in
all at once
00:00- beauty into cliches
05:04- all i've ever known
10:23- pin it down
15:19- hospital
19:23- song in my head
24:34- broken harvest
