Yes, I wrote this street beat for Madison in 2000. Based off of the 311 song Evolution. Glad you enjoyed it.

they focus too much on cadences, maybe thats why they dont win high drums. ouch

The philosophy at that time was more about entertainment and achievement level. After the 1988 victory, and the subsequent reshuffling of rules, Madison put a lot less emphasis on scores and critique. One the issues they saw coming at the time, which is now a reality, is that show scores are often a bigger reflection of the show design than the performers. In the 90's, the Madison drumline played some seriously ridiculous notes, with a massive exercise book. All told, with variations, the exercises totaled 80 in 2,000. Other corps were certainly cleaner and focused on doing fewer things very well. This was a conscious choice to eschew the side of judging that often was a critique of design and lent more toward entertainment and education. So, your point about cadences is partially true. This was likely filmed at the end of a rehearsal as part of a clinic for local schools and students. That doesn't lend easily to winning drums but seeing those clinics is what inspired people such as myself to go into drum corps and have the best time of my young life.
