Most of the early Madness videos on KZitem come from a compilation video that was put together a few years after the originals were made. Before each video the band do a little joke intro to the song, that was the busking bit of this video.

Thanks for featuring this - you asked earlier about whether Madness ever had a softer side and I thought of this one. You're right that it's about homelessness and people down on their luck - in subject matter it always reminds me of a more modern version of Ralph McTell's "Streets of London".

1984 Madness was very different to what came before in 1979-1981. They moved away from the 2-tone Ska sound and the genre was already fading. Most British acts at the time were moving into a more jazz oriented style. Check out Paris Match by Style Council(Tracy Thorn version) and Everythjng But the Girl - Each and Every One. More jazz pop songs from 1984.

Not typical Madness in sound, but this is my fave. Their ability to write a range of different styles is part of their genius. Social commentary at its very finest.

I have been a fan of Madness since 1980, and this song was one I hadn't heard. Great reaction. Here are 3 songs for the Hanier Family to consider: 1. This Night has Opened My Eyes by The Smiths.2 Angry Eyes by Loggins & Messina. 3. Black Bass by Shonen Knife.

Great reaction video, Madness's musical style changed as time went on. You should check out the song THE SUN AND THE RAIN my favourite Madness song. The song BURNING THE BOATS an album track from the album Mad Not Mad is also one of my favourites. You should check out that song also but i don't think they made a video for this song. Thanks

Would be great if you did a UK early 80s segment of songs, such as: party fears two the associates, the adventures send my heart, fade to grey by Visage, Treason by Teardrop Explodes, This Mortal Coil - Song To The Siren , love action by human league, The Care - Flaming Sword, Talk Talk - Life's What You Make It, The The Icicle Works - Love is a wonderful colour or Hollow Horse.

First in Madness' mini-series of ballads with musical quotes built in - this song owes something to a couple of jazz standards, i.e Blue Boss and Polka Dots And Moonbeams

If you are still interested in reacting to cardiacs, might I possibly suggest RES early promo,to get a glimpse into the musical world of Tim Smith.who received an honorary PhD in 2018 for music, becoming Dr Tim Smith. He sadly died in 2020.It's said life's not the same after discovering cardiacs, you either get it,or you don't.to be honest I want to see the expression on your face's,as I can almost guarantee you'll not have come across a band like cardiacs.

The best thing about Madness videos, is that they look like they collectively, cost about 300 bucks. There's a couple of excellent documentaries on the You Tubes about Madness/2 Tone/The Specials. Well worth seeking out. Iirc, there's a serialised one on the Madness channel thats great.

@@hanierfamily Blue is a lesser known FYC track, a great melody and the best and one of the most heartfelt denunciations of the damage Thatcher did to Britain in the eighties. Released in 1985, it did not do as well as their later singles from The Raw And The Cooked, which garnered stratospheric success in America in 1989/ 1990. They quit at the height of their fame, walking away when it became too overwhelming. Very brave. Roland Gift is a class act, very intelligent and unassuming. His voice is unique. Another very good FYC track is The Flame.
