For those disrespecting the interviewer, he's playing a role. Madonna would not be giving these great answers if he wasn't provoking her with these questions. The reason why she doesn't get pissed off is that she recognises he's not being rude, he's not being personal and is just presenting Devil's Advocate arguments. He's actually respectful and non patronising by recognizing she has a tough enough skin to stick to the argument and not feel insulted. In fact the very last exchange was sincere; "Thank you very much Madonna, it was kind of you to talk to us", Madonna replied, "Thanks for listening to me."

Robert Jameson exactly! There’s an art to it and well versed celebrities know this. They also expect it, many interviewers ask the same questions give or take...so they also come prepared with canned answers. Attending interviews is a job basically, in and of itself it’s a publicity stunt, & they come along with a standard template. That said, Madonna broke the mold.

I am blown away by this interview. She's is smart, she has a message, she's poised, confident, and explains her perspective so well. The interviewer was respectful, engaged with her on real issues, asked questions that allowed her to showcase her intellect, and pays her the compliment of drawing her out so they could have an interesting conversation. I'm also blown away by how long this interview is. So refreshing in an age where artists get 2 minutes before the interviewer says, "and very quickly, can you tell us what is next for you? We only have about 30 seconds.... and thank you, we're going to have to stop there."

She's poised because that was the culture of the time! There was still a semblance of grace left. SHE is part of what WRECKED that entire thing we had going. The entire Christian identity of this country. Whether you believe or not, our Country was founded on Christian principles. (Do unto others as you'd have them do unto you, respect, decency- these are Christian ideas that were new to the world, a very cruel world). So the more we did THIS kind of Madonna, Lady Gaga shit the more we opened doors to fucking disasters like themselves. Disasters such as: Cardi B, Lil Xan, and DaBaby. It's so amazing to think how far Madonna has not just pushed the envelop of sexual acceptance but she's busted down the door and although I consider David Bowie as one of my artistic heroes and I listened to him since I was 13 yo and I'm going to be sixty in December, at least Madonna was 100% honest about her sexuality, when Bowie used his ploy of being gay, then back peddled to being bisexual and I give credit where credit is due. Both Bowie and Madonna had their places moving boundaries in not only musical art but also in society! I never dyed my hair pink or wore platform boots but if I wanted to I could have. Madonna helped pave the way for greater expression of sexuality and gender expression in our country and in the world. Women and LGBTQ people have benefited from powerful women like Madonna, Oprah, Janet Jackson, and others who challenged the prevailing prudishness, puritanism, and conservatism in our culture in the 80s and 90s. It’s amazing to think about how unfree we were back then to express ourselves. We’re still not fully liberated, in terms of gender and sexuality, but I believe we’re getting there.

Yet makes a video "What it feels like to be a girl" where she goes around shooting people then killing herself at the end. She uses gun shot sounds at MDNA and shows violent images of people getting killed in front of young people at her concerts but had the nerve to say in this interview there's too much violence on TV. Not too mention her hypocritical statement "guns don't kill people, people kill people." Here she's saying that Americans are too prude and conservative but she doesn't want her own kids Lourdes and Rocco to have serious romantic relationships until they're 18 which even my cousin who's a fan of this ho bag admitted that to me. This sleaze is so hell bent on accusing Americans of opposing comprehensive sex ed but why the fuck did her brother even admit that this ho caught an STD herself and ended up with a couple of unwanted pregancies that aborted later. Even European stats on rape, AIDs, prostitution, and trafficking are not even that lower than what radical left wing nuts like her, idiotic professors, Hollyweirdos like them want people to believe. Europeans have fewer pregnancies though because they just don't like having as many kids as Americans want to.

I need you guys to understand why this should be forever marked in the history of television. Do you remember any other woman before this time doing the same on public television? Speaking and debating, DEFENDING herself and stading her ground? Godamn it! Madonna was all on fire, she was saying the things she wanted, she was opening up a gap, and trying to make the world see something obvious. Of course, you might say that deep down she just wanted to make money and be noticed. So what?! She works her ass off for it, since then, til now Madonna continues to bring everything to the table. That's one of the FEW pop artists, that are not build by her management team, she is herself, and even tho she is not always nice or right, she's an example of self confidence and self expression. For real, this woman, did a lot for the women in the business, and it's so sad that this credit is been taken out of her.

Sadboy 1999 - I totally agree with your point. I was about 14 when all of this took place and she was very targeted yet she remained focused, intelligent and her mastery of all of this kept her in place of the sort of ring master of the circus of that time. But she is/was not alone. Watch some of Marilyn Monroe’s interviews from the mid 1950’s, and relative to the time period, she was very much in the same seat as being a woman in charge of her sexuality and breaking social barriers at a time when women were not allowed to be as outspoken. Her delivery is different, but the overall social context is very similar. Which is why Madonna was compared to her so much. Post Marilyn, women were allowed to be more sexual and not be ashamed of it. Every generation seems to have someone who is ahead of the curve and with enough self determination, they are able to make themselves heard for all women. This is why Gloria Steinem called Marilyn the first true feminist. The sad thing is Marilyn was an emotional wreck which got to her in the end. But what she stood for out lasted the time. (And I hope no one reads this and says Marilyn was stupid/victim/slut, whatever. Because that is exactly what she was told in her time and she just kept plowing right past that)

Gina Sousa Branco in the context of when this was filmed in 1990 not the body of her work in the 1990's. You've clearly missed my point entirely. Madonna was ridiculed for the sexual nature of this video at the time, yet Prince was behaving just as bad in terms of his work and sexual image and didn't court as much controversy. Madonna has more or less said this herself.

Gayham those items I mentioned were in the first 3 years of the 90's: 1990 to 1993. Only Prince's Scandalous song has an erotic & sexual content in its lyrics

+Gina Sousa Branco Again you are missing my point! It isnt an argument about who was more sexual or who talked about it more. He was incredibly sexual at this time. He masturbated on stage with a guitar, was photographed naked hundreds of times, wrote a song about 'cream'...the list goes on. This was way before justify my love. It doesnt matter what the subjects were, they were all sexual in nature. My point is, is that because he was a man nobody bothered him or made such a fuss about it but as soon as Madonna did there was an outcry because she is a woman. If she was a man saying these things there would not have been such controversy.

Gay is 5% of our population. 7 at most. Most people are not gay. Not even now after all that's been culturally pushed on people. It's fine to have her opinion, but it's also fine to not like, affirm, or accept gay sex as the norm. That doesn't mean you can hate gay people, but arguing on the morality of it all is permissible ONE WAY OR THE OTHER.

@@SWNelson7 Do you even hear yourself? That was the most ignorant argument, full of hypocrisy I've ever heard --- So Black population is 13.5%, Asians make up about 7% in the US -- Are they less American because they are minority? They are not "normal" because they aren't the majority? Is it "fine" to not accept them?? I question YOUR morality (as well as your intelligence) based on your statement --- And regarding your second point: Arguing on the "morality" based on what? The Bible? Have you even read the Bible?? Do you even realize that over 50% of STRAIGHT couple marriages in the US ends up in divorce and over 80% of them will remarry? The Bible clearly states that this is committing adultery which is same "sin" as homosexuality according to the Bible, That seems to be way bigger problem than 5% of (gay) population being able to marry --- yet I dont see people like you parading to ban divorce on the straight marriage -- Dont be a hypocrite -- The Bible also says EVERYONEs a sinner and let the one whose truly pure and innocent throw the first stone -- It also says "Thou shall not judge or you'd be the first one to be judged by God" --- So who gave you the moral compass to say which sins worse than the other?

And she still continues even at her age still pushing limits to help pave the way... A never ending battle... She had been inspired to continue...
