Ha, when I saw the title “Rim fire inside cockpit during drop” I thought they meant someone popped off a .22 rim fire round by accident.

@FlamQ Dbltap And yet that is exactly what they were given for decades. The AR-7 and the M-6 .22 survival rifles. Now they have switched to a more defensive rifle in a larger caliber.

Not to overstate the obvious, but you really have to know what you're doing, to fly like this. My first exposure to this kind of aviation was watching a DC-6, dropping a load of the red stuff at 200 feet, and then roaring up a canyon in a steep climb, during a range fire in western Nevada. The sound of those big radials echoing off the canyon walls, was really not to be missed. A spotter plane made a pass, and then came around again to lead the 6 into the drop.

This is killer video. I'd love to do something like this in our SQ, but how the hell did you get the ICS audio along with the camera shot? Did you plug a recorder into an extra comm box or what?

This is a CA-ANG plane, not a CalFire plane. Most of the airtankers contracted to the USFS are a minimum of 2 people. The S2Ts do fly solo.
