As someone with a larger YT audience than Tim Pool and who occasionally takes money to do full-video infomercials, I can confirm his claim of 100k per vid being underpriced is indeed ludicrous. I think it's important to recognize that the compromised individuals weren't bribed to completely change their opinions. Rather, they were targeted because they were already those most ideologically aligned and receptive to suggestion. Russian propaganda isn't a guy unconvincingly reciting talking points while dollar bills tumble out of his suit pockets. Oftentimes it's the systematic amplification, hijacking and ideological redirection of genuine domestic political movements.

You understand how disinformation campaigns work (aka psy ops) , congrats for not falling for the easy partisan answer. There are narrative pipelines for both sides, if you can somehow get your message in there, it will become part of the narrative. It's that simple, as easily 80% of the population will gladly bludgeon the side they hate with what russia or china has to offer. It's sad how few people see this very obvious neverending pattern play out time and time again.

@@Itsgone99 that's a completely wrong attitude. People really want to save the world from the threat they perceive (well, those who aren't influenced purely by greed). They really think that, say, Democratic Party, which they consider left-wing, is a threat to the very soul of USA, the source of leftist, even communist corruption and slow, insidious influence of foreign and inferior cultures. There is nothing inherently wrong with their worldview; I myself am very suspicious of inferior cultures (and if you say there are no inferior cultures, well, I am an ethnic Russian who was brought up in the former USSR in a very Russian cultural way so I would be the judge of that. There are inferior cultures, and my native culture is one of those, but by no means the only one.), and, again, as someone who witnessed the logical conclusion of left-wing politics brought to eleven, in the Soviet Union, I'm definitely not a fan of left-wing anything. The problem is they are mistaken in their understanding of where the line of "radical left" goes, as also of the problems associated with the unchecked right-wing policies. But they are not inherently evil or nihilistic. May me a bit stupid and uneducated, but it's not the same.

So that we may be stronger democracies and re-establish trust in our news media.

A democracy s built from the ground up, not the top down. Commercial and state media has always been lying, just as influencers do. We rightfully condemn those people taking money from Russia. But for other media, people also look the other way. E.g. Germany's state broadcasters receiver over 7 billion EUR annually to promote the German government's agenda. I was in a somewhat similar position more than once, where bad people supported me when I was doing the right thing (the right thing in my opinion) because that right thing was temporarily corresponding with their perceived goals; I didn't care, I still was doing the right thing; if bad people would shower me with money, well, they'll have less money for their other nefarious doings, so it's a win-win. So why would they care? Especially if they don't consider Russians to be bad people.

Tim Pool's dad has his own KZitem channel, and while I don't share all of his politics, I can say he's a really great example of a truly responsible content creator. No ego, no drive for sensationalism or palace intrigue--the complete opposite of his son.

The 'Tim's Dad' call in to Majority Report yesterday was surprising and informative and non-confrontational. First I had heard of him.

@@TKMcClone I feel bad for him. He's a dad. He can't just disown his own son. And you could hear him doing a very good job of masking his pain in that interview. But likewise, you did not see him get defensive with them for constantly dunking on his son, even in only-slightly moderated tones while he was on the call. He agreed with them, but couldn't say it.

@@smallpseudonym2844 aren't we all disappointed in our children, as much as they are disappointed in us? :) After all, they've grown up to be not like us, only better and wiser, but completely different personalities, with their own flaws and their own virtues, and different values, valuing things that are completely alien for us and dismissing what was good and dear for us. I was a great disappointment for my father, even though he loved me greatly even on his death bed; but he was a proper Russian with proper Russian values, and I've rejected everything he and generations of our ancestors held dear; he tried to understand me and find value in things I've valued, but it was hard for him. Still, we loved each other so much, I've learned so much from him, important things, important values, even though those weren't values he could easily recognize. Now, my own children are different from me, they, again, don't value things I'm valuing, and value things I consider to be wrong. I haven't been there for them when they were growing up (for a range of reason neither of which is somehow my fault, but still), so who am I to even imagine that they should share my values, though. Hell, I'm ranting like every elderly guy fallen in the pits of his memory. :) Sorry, people.

I help my girlfriend to sell stuff on FB marketplace and even I check the people who claim that they want to buy our stuff. It's impossible for me to believe that the founders had no idea and very hard to believe that the creators had no idea that the source of their income was at least extremely suspicious. Some of these people claim to be journalists, but they seemingly failed to do the most basic investigation that any prudent individual, let alone a journalist would do.

Fundamentally what they were doing is what the Koch family does when they want to stop a light rail from being built in a US city. The Kochs also find some local people who are opposed to the Light Rail for some reason of their own (though not necessarily the Koch's anti-transit ideology or finances) and they amplify their voices as much as they can while hiding behind these locals like the man behind the curtain the Wizard of Oz. In 90% of all cases these locals are sincerely worried about how their business, neighborhood or church would be impacted. The biggest difference between that and these Kremlin backed MAGA users is that the Kochs are 1000X better at covering their tracks.

The defense from media personalities on the right, or from people in the comments of the KZitem creators in question, is that "well they weren't given a specific message to deliver, on behalf of the Russians". They weren't given a specific message because their content was already the type of content the Russians wanted.

I appreciate your basic honesty and sensitivity, Vlad. Sometimes I actually disagree with you particularly when you talk American politics. This is not because I back the Republicans, but because I am so disappointed with the Democrats and their very poor leadership. But I come back because you are basically honest.

I cannot f*k believe it! 😳🤯 You say you appreciate honesty and sensitivity and yet you back the party that has chosen a malignant narcissistic liar, serial cheater, serial bankrupter, serial fraudster, wannabe dictator, coup plotter, atheist faking to be Christian, convicted felon as their leader? And you have a problem with Democrats because of poor leadership??? You can’t be serious. You cannot f*g be for real. I think I have more respect for the evangelicals who at least are honest enough to say “we know trump is a scumbag but he will implement our agenda so we do care”.

The part "Do not separate too sharply convenience from sincerity! If something is especially convenient, human beings who do not have profound integrity and profound psychological stability will start to drift in such a way that they anyway begin to sincerely believe what is convenient for them to believe. So it’s not “Are they saying it because they mean it?” versus “Are they saying it because they’re getting paid for it?”, its “They mean what they’re saying because they’re getting paid for it!” is just pure gold! Goes directly into my TOP QUOTES text file!

Vlad, normal people are not left-wing extremists and tribalists who are ultra-polarized. (and even they can be deprogrammed) People (like me) watched content creators like Tim Pool and Lauren Chen because they wanted to have different inputs and many of their talking points made sense. Personally, I've stopped watching Tim Pool (and yes, now I've also seen his vile video on Ukraine) a while ago because he increasingly went down in his ability to add value. This was long before there was evidence he was paid for by Russia. I suspect there is a link. People question. And they will also question "influencers" that have fallen to the enemy. And they will turn away. They are following the same processes and principles of media literacy that have led them to turn away from corrupt left wing and state media. Other than that, I found your analysis helpful and valuable to me.

15:39 - 16:56 This is very important. Mark Galeotti emphasized this repeatedly years ago (2015 or was it 2016?) when many Russian diplomats had to leave that large compound in D.C. b/c of meddling. He pointed out that the thought process after was not very constructive when important "decision-makers" behaved like this was something completely foreign, alien, and new to USA and society. (Paraphrasing ~it's wrong to think and behave like this is something completely alien that has been artificially injected into our otherwise pure heavenly bodies.) Thank you Vlad🌺
