That’s great John. Thanks. Some people have said I make it look too easy but it really isnt that hard. I shot this video in one take without any practice fitting them. If it is hard then you might be doing something wrong. Reach out if you need any advice. You can message me on insta, X or email. I’m still loving mine 6 months on and have replaced segments a couple of times when I’ve hit a kerb. Super easy. Occasionally you may have some unclip on outer edge if you crush your sidewall too much on the edge of a driveway but they just pop back on.

Unfortunately I didn't have the same experience. I have a Tesla 3 performance and I have pictures to prove it. I had a model from May 2023, didn't work so they asked me to wait until Sept, they had made tweaks to the model. It was easier to install but didn't last long either, segments start to pop off. Nice concept, but item doesn't deliver. This rim protector is a joke, my rims look like crap as one by one they start falling off or just get misaligned. Also, you can't bring them to the carwash as they will start to fall off when you go on to the grip. Don't buy, not worth the hassle.

It’s a shame you had a bad experience. Mine have been great. It’s not a perfect solution but the best available for now. Some people have found them hard to fit but all I can do is show you how I do it which worked well. I can’t vouch for the performance ones. Maybe they don’t have as much surface area with the tape. I’ve had a couple come loose after I drove over the edge of my driveway. I think the tyre crushed and popped the outer edge. They didn’t fall off though. I just clipped the outer edge back on and they have been good since. There are now 1 piece protectors offered by a few places. Not sure if they make performance ones but maybe they would be better for your situation. I prefer to be able to replace individual segments. So I’ll stick with these for now.

Haha. That wasn’t the intention. They are fiddly. Seems like I’ve been lucky with mine. It’s not a perfect solution but after I reviewed their phone mount I had my Model Y on order and asked them about the RimCase. They gave me an extra set for the destructive testing. I’m sure they will improve on the design over time too. Poor Australian dollar makes them pretty expensive right now.

What happens when you need to change the tires? Can those covers stay on or do you have to buy new covers each time you change your tires?
@notinthemanual
10 ай бұрын
I haven’t encountered that yet. It would depend on the tyre changing machine and which side the tyre needs to be removed. I was lucky enough to only change the tyres once on my Model 3 in 2yrs. If you buy an extra spare wheel set they are $39 so it is pretty reasonable for the odd puncture repair but a full set of tyres being replaced would be a problem. You can unclip them and cut new 3M tape but that would be time consuming. I’ve asked MagBak if they are planning on selling 3M tape kits. I will let you know what they say. It’s not a perfect product but it does work and no one else is making anything like it.

I’m sorry that you found this difficult. I actually filmed this on the fly first try without any practice. I didn’t try and make it look easy at all. If it had been a waste of time I would not have posted the video. I wish you had asked me for help. I would have gladly tried to assist as I have for others. There would have been something simple that you were not doing correctly. These are still on my car 6 months later and working well. I’ve replaced a few segments after scraping on the kerb and am still very happy with them. Only issue I have had is the occasional segment coming loose which is easily clipped back in place. Nothing better on the market yet either.

That’s very strange. I’ve had the opposite experience with mine and found them to work very well when I’ve hit kerbs. I’ve replaced around 6 segments due to damage that would otherwise been my wheel. I do wish they were easier to fit though. If you don’t get it right they will come off. Until there is something better on the market I’ll keep recommending these.

Thanks for the feedback anyway. I suggest you contact Magbak and see if you can return them. A few people have found them hard to fit. When I filmed the video it was all off the cuff without any practice. Some people have said I made it look easy but I don’t know how. My segments are actually very difficult to remove once fitted. I need to pry very hard to remove them so maybe you got a faulty batch or something.

I think if fitted properly that would be rare. This is why I left my mistakes in the video to show where you can go wrong. It’s easy to mess it up and not clip the inner side properly. Hi John. I’ve had a couple come loose now but it seems to be only if I catch the kerb hard as I’m driving into my driveway. I think when the tyre compresses enough it can unclip a segment. I’ve just been clipping them back on maybe once every couple of weeks I find one unclipped on my back left wheel only.

@@notinthemanual I usually get chips at the front of my cars on the Bruce Highway as it's mostly single lane, and there are a LOT of trucks on that road that swerve on and off the side of the road where all the small rocks are and flick them up. Same with the windscreen. I don't think I've ever had chips driving on the Pacific, Hume or even Princes highways for that matter.
