Does the guitar take pedals well? ??????

I own this amp and when I first got it I thought is was a bit too heavy on the bass and not enough high end. But after a few weeks the speakers broke in and now it sounds like David's harp. I originally thought I would need a buffer pedal in front of it to smooth things out but now I bypass it and eventually took it out of the chain. So glad i didn't give up on it.

What guitars you mainly use - only Fenders?, is it still too dark for humbuckers? What do you mean by "smooth things out" - is it harsh / crisp sounding? How do you find it with pedals, ODs, modulation? Is the over all tone organic or hifi, sophisticated?

@@markuslinnanen555 In my opinion it has a more balanced frequency response with single coils and P-90 guitars. It overdrives great with humbuckers pushing it and with tube compression flattening out the bass. But playing clean with humbuckers I have to turn the bass down to zero, mids cut back 3/4 and treble all the way up. I would describe the overall sound as more hi fi and refined like a blackface Fender over a tweed Fender. If you are using the vibrato and/or reverb, you want a thinner sound hitting the amp like single coils or a P-90 makes. A thicker sound makes the vibrato muddy. Nothing harsh about the sound. I own a lot of vintage Magnatones and it sounds more guitar friendly than those do before I mod them.

Your observation is what a review should be - thank you! Most of the reviewers, like Lance, seem to be first and foremost salesmen. Your information is pretty valid for anyone thinking buying this amp. You think it's an excellent - or a mediocre - choice for a guitarist playing all sorts of pop, rock, cover songs in a small band? I definitely like my Vox AC15HW but would like to have a fenderish amp as well. Is it a fixed bias amp?

@Joe Simon I read a review saying it's a loud 22 watter - you agree? How does it interact with OD pedals? Do you have to dime the pedals or do your ODs push easily Twilighter's front end?

@@markuslinnanen555 It is hellishly loud with a huge bottom end. It's really built well so when you crank it you don't get any rattling anywhere like a cheap amp does. I'd compare its overdive response to a blackface Fender. It doesn't have the mid hump as much as a tweed Fender. It does have that huge bottom end keeping it from sounding boxy when you crank it. Even though its 25 watts I can't imagine needing more headroom these days, especially after adding an extension speaker or using a microphone to the PA. It seems voiced for modulation effects pedals to sound great...and that makes sense since it's voiced for the vibrato to shine. It takes pedals well. Really it has no shortcomings other than maybe the sound is a bit "modern" overall and might not have a dirty, gritty, low-fi bluesy sound if all you are trying do is recreate vintage blues sounds. It might be lacking that one specific area slightly but I guess that's the price you pay for versatility everywhere else.

Ingo Hassenstein it’s a Royer R-121 ribbon mic. Or possibly an R-122, which is just a phantom powered version of the R-121. A modern studio stable on guitar amps, usually blended with an SM-57 or other dynamic mic.
