I love this video. It is the best magnum four stroke video I have seen.

Any idea what your high and low needle setting are ? Friend of mine has the XL91 and he can't get it to idle like this at all , the motor has 1/2 gallon ran though it and valves are set to 0.004mm

0.004mm or 4 thou (0.004") - 0.004mm is way to close. 4 thou(0.004") is about 0.1mm - this may be the problem. I just bought an ASP equivalent FS91AR, I hope mine runs like this one! Or that I can tune it as well as this one.

Would you recommend this engine, I been debating on one of these, the OS fs95v, or Thunder Tiger F-91s. I like the price of the Magnum

My experience with magnums has been that they take time to break in. If you rush it and lean it up after a few flights I've seen them go to pots. If you run many tanks of fuel through them and break them in nice and slow I've seen them be great engines. If you have the money to buy a saito then buy a saito. This is like comparing a chevy cavalier to a caddilac. The cavalier (if treated well) can get you from point A to point B. You have less of a chance of getting a lemon Saito. I had a brand new magnum 2-stroke .52 and it was a total turd. My buddy had a .28 and it was a turd. I had a .25 that was better than any other .25 I had owned (and that is about all brands and models). The .91fs was good and the .30fs was good. I love to route for the underdog but have gotten burned too. You won't get better than a Saito, I have never met a O.S. that I didn't like (I've owned most of them from .10 to 1.60), and my favorite value engine is... Thunder Tiger. I have ran the snot out of many of them. They have given equal or better numbers than any O.S. I've had. I have put so many miles on some of the .46 size engines that I went through a set of bearings. Still runs as good as new. So with that said experimenting with engines is fun if you are a tinkerer. If you just want to fly then skip the asp/magnum and get one of the other mentioned brands. :^)

@rgvtto I'd check for you but I sold the motor. I had it on a 60 size GP Tigermoth for a while and the plane flew better with it than my 25cc weater conversion gas motor. It was a strong running engine. Magnums are a little picky on the low speed setting. If you don't get it just right it affects the top end and you can have a miserable experience with them. I find the O.S. engines a little more user friendly carb wise but broken in correctly the magnums can be great.

hi, do you know if you can make these 4 stroke engines go backwards to suit prop?

@fillopygeesi I've owned many magnums of both 2 stroke and 4 stroke flavors. I've had some that were absolutely perfect and some that caused so much frustration I should have never bothered and just sent them back or thrown them away. I would buy a thunder tiger over the magnum any day. I love their smooth carbs and have never had a bad one. I have never owned a bad OS engine either. If my money was on the table today I would probably give in and buy the OS. You get what you pay for.

Fabulous idle! Most people think you need 15% or more nitro for an engine to idle that low. Here's the proof you don"t.

Get your settings right with a good glow plug and that is most of the battle. Here you can see I had a heavy hub nut on the engine which also gives it the mass to pull the prop through the cycle at low rpm's.

@echo41911709 I don't think so. I would guess you would have to have a different cam for the right timing.

me thought 4 strokes have an ignition system
@spyder000069

When they run on gasoline both two and four strokes have an ignition system. However for rc flight many engines run glow fuel and use a glow plug that stays hot and reignites the mixture much like a diesel engine. No ignition means lighter weight and cheaper to produce but fuel is $15-20 a gallon. Larger rc planes can run gas (mixed with 2 stroke oil) with ignition systems because their size can handle the weight.

Like spyder said, it's a crap shoot with Magnums. Personally, I've had good luck with them and have a 91 waiting on me to finish my 4*60. I had another 4*60 with a Saito 100 on it and I'm partial to Saitos.
